If Joe wins AZ it is going to come down to MI and PA, he needs just one of them. Not sure he's gonna win either.

With the possibility of AZ going blue, there is a good chance that Trump is re-elected via electoral college tie.

I'm assuming Michigan and Penn are sort of like GA? States where the big blue city vote counts won't get tabulated til much later?

I think Joe has won this thing!
If they count the votes, Joe is going to win GA, WI, and MI.
PA may be a bit dicey but we won't even need it.
Arizona was a HUGE victory.

Joe came out and said we're winning, and I believe him!

I told you about those paranoid Cuban-Americans in Florida. Joe Biden was on the ballot but they read Fidel Castro.

But with AZ and NE2 in the bag and Wisconsin and Michigan to come, it must be Biden now. Though still nothing like the repudiation of Trump that was needed.

Wisconsin and Michigan trending well for Biden, holding my breath.

So who won?

If it is even, i guess Kanye West will have to give his votes to one of the two others, to make a winner.

I did go to bed early last night, thinking the outcome would be unknown until today at the earliest and more likely even later. This morning I am disgusted and ashamed.

Even if Biden wins (some people are saying he still has a shot, I don’t know, good people like the NYT??? ... wtf do they know), the fact that it is this close fills me with disgust, shame, and sadness for what we have become. And if Trump wins, add fear and despair to the disgust, shame, and sadness.

If Trump succeeds by preventing the counting of mail-in ballots, add outrage to the mix. Check that, I’m already outraged by his efforts to do so. If his voter suppression efforts are what puts him over the top, I’d like to see a massive tax protest. Of course it is no more than a fantasy, but let every Biden supporter refuse to pay Federal income tax until Trump is gone.

I think Joe Biden is going to win, and I think Trump is going to have no choice but to concede.
Joe is going to win Michigan handily, he's up by 20+k with 97% counted in Wisconsin, and the lead is narrow in Nevada but the outstanding ballots are likely Democrat.
Georgia and Pennsylvania are going to be razor thin but he won't need those states if he holds NV, WI, and MI.

This will be a case where the electoral college will make it look like a nice and clean win for Joe, but those who were watching in up close in real time will have realized that the race was far closer than it should have been.

If it wasn't for COVID, Trump likely would have won by 100 electoral votes. That's amazing for a crazy narcisstic leader with little policy views of any kind, beyond immigration, trade, and the (non policy related) desire to host rallies where people can clap for him. He's basically Howard Stern with different colored hair.

Assuming Biden's leads hold, if I was a Dem strategist I'd be disappointed in how yesterday went. Maybe Arizona, Texas reflect some enduring gains for them but on most other dimensions it feels like they underwhelmed, especially if cash expenditure is considered.

Blue state governors - expecting a federal bailout after a tidal wave - are going to have to summon their budget directors again and sharpen their pencils.

I think Covid potentially could change the way we vote in the future and we'll have to build the systems to support it. What just happened with the USPS is a travesty and I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI doesn't step in to investigate exactly why the USPS chose to ignore the court order to expedite the absentee ballots by 3PM in 5 battleground states. You want to talk about trying to "steal" an election? That is about as blatant as it gets.

Gotta like those WI and MI numbers, Patrick!
Arizona to me is the story of the night... It ended up being Joe's sunbelt firewall.

Nate's site saying it is "more likely than not" that the outstanding ballots in PA will leave Joe ahead in the end.

Amen, brother! It’s looking good for Joe it seems, but bad for the country. All we can hope for at this point is Trump’s efforts to steal the election just end up as ineffectual flailing.

I agree with Arv’s take too- I thought this would be close in the EC, but that Biden would win his Rustbelt states with much more comfortable margins. Trump and his lackey Corey Gardner did get crushed in CO, I can take that result with some real civic pride.

It is looking good for Biden. BUT, it's a sad commentary on our state of affairs that it was anywhere near this close. It's frankly hard for me to fathom that nearly half of the voters in this country were able to bring themselves to vote for Trump. I guess it says something about our "moral" fabric.

You could also invert this and say, as crazy as Trump was, and how many people on the right don't like/trust him, they viewed the policy package the other side offered as worse, thus holding their nose and voting for him. And even of the Biden 'base' , how many of those really want what's on offer, versus just not wanting Trump anymore?

Still, that's not going to stop the winning side from treating a squeaker as if they have a San Francisco style mandate, and filling the cabinet with hard partisans. For better or worse that's the advantage of our winner take all systems rather than the parliamentary style of many other developed nations.
