I received 2 bottles of Colorado wine today to try as part of a promotional effort. I did not buy them.

I am glad that the BD kept me out of the moratorium by not approving my very reasonable exception requests as I am coming across many necessary exceptions that I did not think about.

Stefan, the Colorado white, a NV Vidal Blanc with a bit of Gewurtz, was a simple, light, quaffable, dry and floral wine that I didn’t mind drinking, and for $12 I could see it as a wine to have in quantity for a summer deck party with non-drinkers. The Tempranillo, OTOH, was 1 glass to taste and I’m out.

I'll try to help. For many, pinot noir isn't considered wine. There you go.

Haven’t bought anything yet this year. Wondering if those $10-$20 Pinot Grigio, Rose or Côte du Rhône count when they are purchased to bring to a party or to bring to someone’s house. Don’t think they should because they aren’t for cellaring and are bought for some others preference.

My personal view is that this can be seen as a moratorium on wine *collecting*, so that individual bottles purchased locally to be consumed that same night do not fall under it. This is similar to the exemption for individual bottles purchased for restaurant consumption -- basically if you are buying "casually" to drink immediately it is OK.

I would also say that this does not extend to ordering wine for delivery from afar, even if you intend to consume once received, since that is not immediate consumption and gets too close to the collecting line. If you could order off Winesearcher and the like you could do back-door collecting by, e.g. ordering a new bottle of 2000 Lagrange to drink when you instead would have drunk a 2000 Lagrange out of your collection.

Ok, I definitely should have opted for the champagne exemption!

I will note that I have not purchased one, single, solitary bottle of wine so far in 2020. There have been a few tough moments, but in general it's been easier than I thought so far.

If the bubbly isn't held against me, I am only at 2 bottles purchased in 2020, one red and one white. Moreover, I did request a 1971 and 1980 exemption for birth year tastings, so I could technically discount the 1971 Nervi as well.

Simple fact: I don't *need* any more red wine or dessert wine based on current rates of consumption. Indeed, if I stop all wine buying today completely and in perpetuity, my spreadsheet tells me I have 10.5 years of red wine and 11.9 years of dessert wine left (per current consumption rates, which I anticipate will go down as I get ready to enter my 50s).

But I have precious little champagne and my white wines in general will only hold out for 6 years (and about 2/3s of that is German Riesling which I don't crave like I used to). So, dry white wines, especially if fizzy, still have a place in my cellar.

That all said, I will redouble my resolve to buy no more wine, no matter the color, no matter the CO2 levels!

Sounds pretty urgent...if civilization collapses and you are trapped in a bunker with your wines, you will only be able to hold out for six years before having to switch entirely to red wines

I’m glad someone understands the urgency! My wife certainly doesn’t.

Put forth your Exemption requests in writing, Blanquito, and I will do everything I possibly can to accomodate.

I've had ZERO problem complying with the moratorium.

Still at zero bottles purchased this year but I plan on buying some more 2008 Dom P soon.

Did the BD give you guys a BeserkerDay exemption?

I don't know anything about Berserker Day, I read only Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts, the greatest wine web site inthe world!
Exemptions are only allowed nunc pro tunc if they were conceptualized in December 2019.

I bought some Flannery steaks at the Berserker Day 30% off discount.

Still at zero bottles of wine purchased in 2020.
