Did you bought any 2021?

Post by Nicklasss »

Yesterday, i did my 2021 future buy. As i did buy a lot of 2015-2016-2018-2019, i went easy on 2020 and 2021.

Finally picked up only a mixed case of 2021, 3 bottles each of Cantemerle, Lagrange, Brane-Cantenac and Grand-Puy Lacoste.

My experience wit 3 bottles of 2018 lately reminded me to wait minimum 15 years before opening, so i'm getting less and less interested on future buying that will be delivered in 2 years, and waited for 15 more for opening...

What about you?

I haven’t Nic but I was reading the Decanter report today from Georgina Hindle who seems to be the new kid on the block and I was impressed by her writing. The 2021 vintage seems a much more interesting vintage than 2018. Several producers clocked in at 12.5% including Ducru Beaucaillou, Pichon Lalande, Gruaud Larose and even Cos dialled it down to 12.75%. On the RB Ausone clocked a commendable 12.8%. I am quite tempted even though I am in my 60th year.

After purchasing a few cases of 2019 futures, I have resisted buying in 2020 or 2021. The primary reason is a combination of resources (now retired) and age (a decade+ older than Comte). My wine spending these days is more about what can be drunk currently or over the next several years.

Ian, I'm also receiving/reading Decanter magazine, and like the report on 2021. Prompt me to buy a few Brane-Cantenac and GPL. And yes, the vintage looks more "classical and balance", but you met MC and now understand i have to buy more Bourgogne... She really liked the Rebourseau last Tuesday...

I hesitated over 2021 as early reports on the vintage weren't that positive but (no surprise) the reports are more encouraging now that the wines are being released.

So far I've only purchased:

Tour St Bonnet
Labegorce (seemed like bit of a bargain) &
St Pierre.

6x LCHB and might be all. Will probably pick some up once they're available on the shelf. This is coming off a 100+ bottle 2019 season and about 30 2020s.

6 half bottles of VCC.
Will buy a mixed case in 2030 at 80% of today’s price.

Talking about VCC, i bought one bottle of the 99 in London, and brought it back with us.

I had the 2002 Rebourseau Gevrey Chambertin not long ago...solid quaff, def. time to drink up, not overly ripe like some may assume...I also have a bottle of 2009 Rebourseau Charmes Chambertin resting.

Having just read her Decanter article, have also now added some Phelan Segur.
