When are the 2019s hitting the shelves?

Post by JimHow »

It seems to be late this year.
Nothing to speak of at my usual suspects, New Hampshire, Zachys, MacArthur's etc., etc.

Already available at winedotcom and saratoga.
Some seems to be coming in at MacArthur's.
Have had Lilian Ladouys, Ormes de pez, and Phelan Segur already.

I just got most of my futures orders in from Total Wine Concierge. The last couple bottles of La Conseillante should come soon as well.

Guys
Funny my EP buys turned up a few months ago and I’m getting spammed with endless offers for retail stock.

Talking of banana republics - we have tropical weather, a great (albeit women’s) soccer team, double digit inflation (which you guys across the pond can’t boast) and a sinking currency.

My 2019s are starting to trickle in, arriving sporadically, but most do not seem to have arrived yet.

42 out of 48 of my 2019’s arrived today: a long journey indeed. Waiting on some Canon and SHL (bought through a different company.

Pretty excited to have a tiny look at some of the unclassified stuff & bury the rest to drink when I’m 50 - 60+ years old.

Nic,

Just got notice from LCBO that all 10 cases of my futures order have arrived in Toronto. I paid off the balance and they should be here in about 1-2 weeks. Late but better than March. I just hope they haven't been sitting in some hot loading dock somewhere like some of the 2005's that came to Ontario. I had 6 Pavie Macquin from Ontario and rendered 6 by mistake from Quebec and the Ontario bottles were all cooked. Many complaints about that and nothing done. They've really tightened their return policy sighting too much fraud. With the original bill of sale they still take the stuff back with reluctance and give a credit.

I just got billed the other 50% from Total Wine, which means the rest of my 2019 EP wine is on its way to my local store for pickup.

I picked mine up from Bassins a month ago (Lafite, Mouton, Ausone, Giscours, Pontet) and today I picked up a lot from Total Wine (halves of leovilles, cos and others). Have yet to hear from Wine Cellarage or Wally’s .

The La Conseillante's are the only ones I'm waiting on currently from Total Wine. Supposedly they are at the warehouse though. Everything else has been delivered.

Compared to 18, I feel they have less power, and the alcohol even though less, is some times more evident. Just my thoughts.

There are in my opinion some good wines. Grand Puy Ducasse , Haut Bages Liberal, Ormes de Pez, Lilian Ladouys, Pedesclaux, Pierre de montignac.
But if high EtOH is an issues look at the great 2016/2014.

Good sample size there Dandersson and interesting points. Keith Levenberg doesn’t seem overly enamoured with them either, only 92/100 for Montrose the other day.

That's interesting Dan...I went deep on 2019, mainly due to pricing and perceived quality, but now I'm not so sure. I see a lot of notes pointing to the "lower" ABV, but it appears more evident by all accounts (versus 2018 and 2020).

Can anyone explain the mechanics of that? Why a lower ABV might come across as more "hot"? i.e. an ABV of 14.0% in 2019 seems "hotter" than a 14.5% in 2018 or 2020?

The 19s have all arrived over here. Most retailers are allocating them out now and I picked up some today. Phelan Segur, Saint Pierre, Marquis De Calon (Edit: Le Marquis De Calon Segur), Lafon Rochet…

So far I’ve looked at La Lagune (black fruited / fruit very restrained / tastes like a 20 year wine, silly to drink now)
& Belle-vue (way more up front fruit, awesome quaffing with red meat)

How’s everyone else going?

My 2019s are all in but the only one I’ve popped, ITNOS of course, is:

Tour St Christophe: Popped one early. Dark purple, almost black. Cherry, dark berry nose, medium body, ripe fruit, decent balance, medium finish, hard to get a sense of place but it’s so young.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Tour St. Christophe of any vintage. Unless I tried one at a recent BWE Convention, in which case it didn’t make enough of an impression to stick. Took a flyer on a 6-pack to see what the buzz was all about. It was a very good wine, especially for the price. It didn’t speak to me of Bordeaux, not now anyway. I’m not very good at seeing the future of baby wines. It seemed a bit simple. I won’t be excited by it nor will I be disappointed if it doesn’t evolve. If it does develop a Bordeaux-ish complexity I’ll be thrilled. The trick will be to hang on long enough to give them a chance. This could be an easy quaffing short-termer given the low price.

So far the only 2019's I've seen so far in NH are Les Ormes de Pez, Latour Martillac and Le Marquis de Calon Segur. Any early impressions on the Latour Martillac?
