We were meeting with a friend with a friend last night last night, and at last minute I added the 1953, the year the queen was crowned. This was the third of six bottles with a mid to high shoulder fill. The other two had been wonderful, so expected much. The wine was on its last legs, showing a little of the same Graves, but a fair amount of Sherry. After five minutes it keeled over.
The Magdelaine though more than made up for it. Really superb, complex, mid maturity, a fair amount of fruit and the light leather harness and iron nuance that I associate with the chateau. Long finish. They don’t make ‘‘em like this anymore.

Musigny 151,
I have very nice memories of Magdelaine 1982 tasted at Hostellerie de Plaisance in 1998. I am not 100% sure, but I think it cost around 300 french francs that year.
