TN: 1990 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

Post by jal »

  • 1990 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (9/22/2022)
With rack of lamb, leek gratin and roasted green beans. Cork was very dry and not even a Durand corkscrew could stop it from falling in. So we decanted through a tea filter. Dark almost black, seductive nose of tertiary notes, earth but also dark chocolate, very fine texture, very tasty with a soft feminine touch. Nice finish. Loved it and a bargain at the $90 I paid 18 months ago on Winebid. (94 pts.)

Nice report jal.

I had the 1988 once in the past and it was also a solid old wine.

Lucie and I drank a 1999 Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin VV at the same dinner. We ate braised duck in mixed vegetables. This G-C is austere and well balanced with herbal overtones in the nose. It was good with the duck. It is still on the upward slope.

Saw a 2019 Beausejour Becot on the shelf in NH this evening, on my way to the airport for Alaska tomorrow early AM.
It was $92 (am I imagining it was $72?), I think, I considered buying it in honor of Jacques's bottle last night, but I held off.
You're right, Gerry, there aren't many 2019 pickings in NH right now. Maybe when I head back north a week from now.

I have a soft spot for this estate, I find the style soft and elegant. I used to like La Gomerie better but now find that a little too cloying.

Jill and I visited the grounds in June 2017, I still have a case of the 2005 Beausejour Becot I have not opened yet
