2000 La Lagune

Post by RPCV »

Pulled this to have with strip steak. One of the last wines delivered by Premier Cru and it did not disappoint. Opened 3 hours and left in the cellar before decanting. Perfect cork and a beautiful garnet color with only a slight bit of bricking. A little tight in the glass on the first sip.....but she blossomed quickly....what a wine! Beautiful, elegant, refined, classical. Consumed over a three hour period and the evolution of this wine stunned me. No rush to drink this if you have some. I'm glad I have one more but will look for a few if the price is right. A five star wine.

Mmmm, sounds like Bordeaux the way it was meant to be.

I opened this vintage recently, it has improved quite a bit over bottles in its youth.

Excellent to hear!

I am the lucky owner of a magnum bottle of this wine.

To open in 2026?

Guys
I have not tried this wine for many years, and strangely I did not like it much when young - I wondered if it would come into balance, and the fruit seemed rather muted. I did however start buying LL again in 2009 so I now have numerous vintages of it.

My vinous memory is pretty good and I can recall how good the wines from the 80’s were. I just wish the prices had not changed. Oh well.

Cheers
Mark

We drank another bottle of 2000 La Lagune last night. It was terrible. Not corked, but really funky and not pleasant to smell. It is a bottle I bought at auction, but other 2000 LL from the same lot have been OK.

But isn’t all La Lagune terrible, overrated swill?

Lol...
It's gotten to the point where I don't know if Jacques is really drinking an off bottle of not.

Some bottles bought on futures are OK, Patrick. Bad ones from auctions are to be expected, especially if they are ten years old. (I bought the 2000 at auction quite some time ago.)
