Glass Chip
Glass Chip
Hey all.
I had a 2017 Pichon Baron arrive in my online order today, but the bottle had a chip (gouge) around 1/4" long in the glass. Also, there was a hairline crack around the 10 o' clock area of the chip (around 1/8" long). There is also no leak.
They have zero in stock to replace it with. My options are:
1. Keep it
2. Return it and get my $99 back
What would you do? I am not too cocerned with the chip, but the crack has me worried...especially for the long-haul. I am also hesitant to return because the price was very good. What to do!?

Re: Glass Chip
For me, that hairline crack doesn't bode well with me...If the wine is being laid down for years, then it might create a problem. Can they swap it with equally or slightly more priced producer wine? Even if it means a burgundy or barolo or a right banker, etc.?
If you wanna open it ITNOS sooner, then it might be ok I guess?
But I would swap it..

Re: Glass Chip
Maybe either return or drink now m. Expect it to age poorly so May as well pull the cork. I would not age as it may simply deteriorate.

Drink in the name of science.
Re: Glass Chip
Use duct tape around the crack. Not pretty but Duct tape always worked for MacGyver

Chatea Vin: Yes, I can swap or repurchase something else. There are some other wines I have my eye on.
I actually am leaning on maybe kerping it and having it over my coming holiday vacation...in the name of science!
I almost wrote off 2017, but I had a few petite chateaux that were very nice, and now I am chasing down some nicer wines from the vintage. Do you all think the Pichon Baron will be drinking ok now?

Bravo, SB! Bravo! Now THAT is what I call the BWE spirit.I actually am leaning on maybe kerping it and having it over my coming holiday vacation...in the name of science!
Seriously, it'll be a hassle to send it back, etc.
It sucks that the bottle was damaged but there will be many more.
I have no doubt that the 2017 Pichon Baron with a little bit of air will be outstanding and a crowd pleaser over the holidays.
Re: Glass Chip
If stuck in a rack or in a wine fridge slot, I don’t see this causing a problem but to err on the safer side, follow jal’s ducktape advice.
Re: Glass Chip
Thanks all!
I think I am keeping it and having it as one of many great wines over the coming holiday. I am actually looking forward to this...maybe a blessing in disguise? I've never had a PB this young, so I'm very interested in this experiment.
