Two Fleuries to compare.

Beaujolais is still a great wine area to follow. :D

Friday last week, I compared Coudert's 2020 Fleurie Clos de La Roilette "Cuvée Tardive" to Yann Bertrand's 2020 Fleurie "Coup d'Foille".

A traditional Fleurie, the 2020 Fleurie Clos de La Roilette "Cuvée Tardive" had a lot of strawberries, roses, and morello cherries. Delicate, refined, sweet, and enticing. The luscious fruit and acidity readily absorb the invisible tannin. It has fine depth, length, and a lingering finish. 91p.

2020 Fleurie Clos de La Roilette "Cuvée Tardive" was a classic Fleurie with lots of strawberries, roses and morello cherries. Delicate, smooth, polished, tasty and seductive. Invisible tannin well absorbed by sweet fruit and acidity. Nice complexity, depth and caressing finish. 91p.

2020 Fleurie "Coup d'Foille" was a big surprise. The youngest Gamay wines, which are 30–60 years old, were used to make this wine. Yann Bertrand does not filter, fine, or add sulfur to his wines. Young winemaker Yann Bertrand is mentored by famous figures from the Beaujolais region, including Jean Foillard, Marcel Lapierre, and Yvon Metras.
In addition to having remarkable minerality, this wine included aromas of licorice, elderberry, wild strawberries, and morello cherries. It was more powerful and full-bodied than CdLR "Cuvée Tardive" with superb balance and energy. Compared to "Cuveé Tardive," this wine had more complexity, depth, and length. A wine that was exciting to taste and had a great personality. 92-93p.
