Wine shops in Rome?

In March, the days prior to the London BWE gathering, we will be in Rome and wondered if anyone might know of a decent wine shop there where we could buy some interesting but not too $$$ Italian wine?

It was many years ago, but one of my favorite wine shop experiences in Italy was a visit to Enoteca Costantini in Rome. Fantastic selection, good prices, and a pleasure to visit. It’s been a while, but I found restaurant wine lists in Italy very fairly priced.

Roscioli Salumaria Con Cucina is outstanding. Classic caccio e pepe and carbonara are both incredible. Great wine list. Reservations are needed well in advance but worth it. They also have a extensive wine shop.

If you like truffles, try Osteria Barberini.

I second the recommendation for Roscioli. Very simple very good food and a very good wine list.

I'm also a fan of Matricianella . Solid food and wine list, very lively, very Roman. Too many tourists but all of Rome is like that (at least in the central areas).

I spent a few hours in the basement this past July. It was during an insane heat wave and the basement was certainly not the coolest (though quite humid and sorta moldy-smelling). I bought some Gaja and some Emidio Pepe, a bunch of Brunellos and some oddball dessert wines. Fun bottles, not especially price-competitive (other than the Pepe), and the ones I’ve opened have seemed sound. Upstairs the Champagnes and other stuff was baking in the heat, I would avoid those if there during a hot spell. BTW, they close for several hours in the middle of the day, so do not do as I did and take an Uber there at lunch and then have to return a few hours later!

Has been over a decade now but my wife and I really enjoyed il Gabriello. I'll always remember it as the first place I had truly perfect al dente pasta.
