What’s your 89 Lynch Bages?

Nice to hear about the 95 and 96 PLL as I have a few bottle of each, although I’m not sure about their condition (auction buy)

But as far as PLL having a down phase, I believe it’s generally considered to have been a bit of an underperformer from the late 90s through the mid 20-teens. I’m not sure how accurate this is but that’s the rep.

Starting in about 2014 it’s supposed to have had a big comeback to again be perhaps the best second growth, but I haven’t tasted any from that era. Sometimes recent comebacks can be modernization which has downsides I don’t need to go into

Good points, Marcus. My last PLL was the 2003, notably good for the vintage— though I did get a minuscule pour of the 16 at the UGC. I am a big fan of the 2000-2003 PLLs though.

But by all accounts, PLL probably did lose the thread thereafter when May-Elaine de Lencquesaing sold the estate in 2003.

To me, the question isn't what's the greatest wine you've had, or want to have.
What wine out there are you emotionally connected to?
And it might not necessarily be a Mouton or a DRC.
Maybe it's a '79 Giscours.... Or an '86 Talbot....
A wine that thrilled you in your early wine drinking life and is a goose-bump wine to uncork still to this day.
'89 Lynch is so unique because not only have I consumed it so many times but I've also written about it so much.
I have three lone bottles left in my cellar....

For a specific vintage of a specific wine, my strongest emotional connection is to the 1970 Magdelaine, which I have been blown away by at least half a dozen times (95+ pts) and deeply impressed by 3-4 times (92-94 pts)… a wine that ripened and harvested when I was in utero as an added bonus. There are few wines I’ve had that many times and none that have shone at such a special, consistent level (though the 82 Magdelaine is a close second).

Alright, Jim. My 89 Lynch is 1990 Angelus. Convinced me that Parker and my taste in Bordeaux wines mostly agreed. And lead to a great cellar of which BWE and wine friends get to enjoy.

Or one you’ve had maybe only once or twice but which has haunted you ever since? That's my 1995 Lafite or Ian's 1990 Jasmin
Or maybe it’s some legend you’ve never had but need to try before you die or at least before your taste buds shrivel up That's hautbrionlover's 1945 Mouton?

Damn...had a bottle of '79 Giscours...went to pop the cork and it fell right into the wine...was DOA unfortunately

Hahaha...looking for some more 04 L.Barton too! Some lovely wines in this vintage. Not sure if I am much of a big fan of vintages with 'power'...they do not seem to shed that power to reveal that classicism quality I desire.

Five of the best wines I've ever had have been 1959 Lafite. (Try diagramming that sentence!) But I fear that additional tastings would underwhelm.

So my desert island wine would be 1985 La Tache.
