A question about US wine distributors

Post by Claudius2 »

Folks
At a retailer wine tasting last week I met the Asian agent for a small Tuscan estate named Dolfi.
The agent is part of the family who owns the estate.
The estate is located near Pisa and produces high quality IGT wines from both international and Italian varieties.
Their best wines is called Pretorius and Artorius. The former is something akin to an Italian Cheval Blanc, being Cabernet Franc and Merlot based.

After trying the wines, we talked a bit about distribution, and the USA market is a target but they have no contacts there.
The estate does not want to try and sell thru a big distributor as they are too small and expensive.
The top wines were about SGD 180-220, or around USD125-160), and not well known and don't want to be just another line item in a distributor's catalogue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Not something I would normally ask you guys but I am not up on the US market.

cheers
Mark

They need a small focused importer for sure. Being out of the biz for 17 years now, my contacts are long gone.

If they are looking really small there is a shop in Pittsburgh that distributes a few Italian producers direct to consumer and i know they arelooking for another producer to add. It is called Spill. I could help to make the connection.

My old law school buddy Mark Flaherty’s office is in downtown Pittsburgh, he’s one of the biggest liquor law attorneys in Pennsylvania.
