Please pre order!! BWE London 2023: La Cabotte, March 24

Post by Comte Flaneur »

For those of you coming please pre order from these menus, they recommend 3-5 canapés per person to drink with the champers

Hi Ian,

Thank you for letting me know.

Corkage is £25 per bottle and canapes are £2-£3 each, so the price will depend on how many bottles you would like to bring and how many canapes you would like each guest to have; we usually suggest 3 to 5 canapes per head.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,
Amira Nahar

Group Events Manager

The Friday night dinner originally was going to be burgundy but we clearly want to make it much broader than that given Michael’s aversion to Pinot noir.

We could make it non Bordeaux French or include new world?

Alex has told me he wants to sit out this dinner as he thinks three nights in a row will be a bit too much of a good thing.

On that, one observation. Maybe we should not go crazy on the Thursday and Friday nights so we are in good shape for Saturday’s Bordeaux blow out?

For years now I've been pacing myself more on all three nights, especially the first two.
BWE is about the people, not the wine. Especially for a trip like this, with jet lag and trying to visit some sites during the daytime hours, I'm not going to get wasted each night. Having said that, I'm looking forward to four nice dinners (including Wednesday) with wine and friends from BWE! Not sure I'll be able to join you for dinner on Tuesday night, Howard, as my flight arrives at Heathrow at 7pm, so I might be available for something a little later.

Me too, i won't be pushing too much, as i will normally bring one bottle per night, and nothing too fancy. But who knows?

And i want to stay in shape for one cleaning ale per night, after the dinner, as London is the city of pubs?

And from what i understand, Ed/Lisa are passing too on Friday? Some other as well? Just to have an idea how many people will finally attend.

We are in on Friday, not on Thursday. I can't drink 3 days in a row, but the history of BWE tells me I can manage 2 if I don't go overboard on day 1.

I’m happy to learn which dinners you’re attending, Ed and Lisa. That might force me to bring a Burg….y Friday night!

Looks great, Ian. I'll definitely be pacing myself. Especially if I'm able to make it for the late dinner on Wednesday night. I also try to spit some each night which helps a lot for me.

I personally like the non Bordeaux French idea, but I'm happy with whatever everyone wants to do.

What time are dinners supposed to start and end?

Friday and Saturday. I can't handle 3 days of BWE in a row. I've never attended a Thursday night BWE dinner.

I am in for all 4 nights, whether it’s upmarket or pub fare. Just tell me where and when. Like MichaelP, my palate is a burgundy-free zone, so I promise to bring at least one potable wine lest others decide to bring The-Grape-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

Controversial question: Shall we make this a red burgundy and Pinot noir free trip?

Or is going without red burgundy unthinkable?

Just because a couple of people don't like Pinot Noir doesn't mean we all have to miss out. I suspect that there will be enough non-Pinot to keep MichaelP and hm$ happy. Typically at a Friday night BWE event there is enough choice and breadth that everyone is happy, even the heathens who don't appreciate Pinot Noir.

Ian, you did not announce what you're bringing yet at that diner, compared to the two other. Not decided yet?

Thanks Ed, I agree with you.

Nic - I haven’t yet decided what to bring to this.

It will either be red burgundy or Northern Rhone. If the latter Chave or Sorrel. If the former, I am not sure yet.

Can we bring Bordeaux each night as well?
I have sometimes brought Bordeaux even in anything-but-Bordeaux night.
I’m working on my wines now.
I’ve booked the Hilton Doubletree in Angels Cross where Timmy is staying, they’ve contact me and asked if I want corporate rates.
Can’t wait!

7pm start Michael I would suggest

No rules against bringing Bordeaux any night Jim but you sets the rules…

For the Wednesday 9pm dinner I have increased the size of the reservation from four to eight and I had some interesting Bordeaux in mind.

Perfect. I may also have a cool champagne for the evening (that I’ll get in Paris or London)

I’ll say this much, it could be awesome to do a pomerol night. The Thursday 2021 dinner might have been might favorite night. Great with a small group. I have a few fun ones I was considering bringing.

Ha, I kind of like this idea. I feel like Pomerol is the least Bordeaux-esque of all the communes. Maybe part of what draws me to it. I think MP's wines have already been selected, but I'm happy to make one of my bottles a Pomerol. I'm still thinking about bringing one Wednesday night as well.

We'll bring an '83 Drouhin Chambertin and something that Howard and Michael-P should be able to tolerate.
