Sixty year retail icons going bust. Banks going bankrupt in Silicon Valley. Russia and China attacking Ukraine and Taiwan and rattling nuclear terror. Octogenarian senate leader concussed after bad fall. Octogenarian president doing a good job but we hold our breath every time he opens his mouth or takes a step forward, and we struggle to imagine him reaching age 86 at the end of a second term. Donald Trump calling for retribution, while his chief rival wants to burn books and is even more fascist. Democracy under attack everywhere, in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and those great democratic bastions, the USA and Israel. Debt ceiling and federal budget held hostage by Jim Jordan and the extremists in the House. Another 2008? Maybe. World War 3 on the horizon? Perhaps. Gonna lose Social Security and Medicare? Just a matter of time. But... I still have my oasis, Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts.... Uncorked a beautifully classic-yet-expressive 2014 Sociando Mallet at the end of a long week... Cheers!

Further evidence of why futures are a mugs game.

Well, I hope the employees are able to get some of their pay, or had advance word and grabbed enough liquid pay off the shelves.

Sad end to an iconic store.

Any idea what was the cause of this?
I'm assuming the pandemic and the struggles of midtown?
Mismanagement and greed?
Is this an isolated thing or something more profound about our global economy?
Is another 2008 coming, and is this a canary in a coal mine?
Or, is it just a business closing, something that happens every day?

Looks like gross mismanagement to me.

The above came out in December.

But SVB first and now Schwab's stock getting pummeled the last few days is really scary. I very much doubt we're in for another financial crisis, but this along with the war in Ukraine, our divisiveness, and I am not really feeling very confident about the near future. Hoping for better days.

Sad ending. I remember occasionally stopping to get a few bottles to stock my studio apartment when I was in NYC on a six-month project back in 1999.
