2010 Chateau Cos Labory St Estephe

Post by Claudius2 »

Folks
I’ve sipped away at several bottles of this and I think this is the last.
I first opened one several years ago and it was quite tannic, but tonight the wine had thrown a considerable crust and it seemed a lot more mature than a year or two ago.

The colour is a nice dark red with ruby rim. Looks quite young, despite the crust on one side of the bottle. The nose is pretty good - lots of dark fruit, some savoury characters, some tobacco and cedar. Yet the palate is rather plain. Medium body with too much acid, the mid palate shows some dark fruit but it is rather plain and the savoury elements seen to get in the way. The end palate is too acidic.

With extended decanter time, the fruit did improve and seemed richer, with dark fruit, graphite and cedar to the fore yet that acidic end palate never seemed to go away. It isn’t a disaster by any means but lacks the balance and interest I’d hoped for.

So I’m wondering it Cos Labory deserves to be a Cru Classe but in any case it isn’t overly expensive.

Cheers
Mark
