Biggest deception of the last 10 years
Don't read musigny 151, it hurts too much...
Opened a 2020 Volnays 1er Brouillards from Glantenay last night and it was very gross and big for Volnay, or even Bourgogne. Color is that nice purple of australian shiraz, nose of super thick concentrated fruit, to the point it it kind of kool-aid or gelly concentrated candy. Some sweet oak too. In mouth, well following the nose, this is not Bourgogne, bur more a lesson what Bourgogne should not do : very thick, super concentrated and ripe fruit, cola, concentrated bitter vine wood. Basically, that remind me... a Caymus Cabernet in texture... 14.5 % alcohol, i should have worried more (i read somewhete their 2020 Volnay village is 15 % alcohol).
Ptevious vintages have been convincing, but that 2020 is like a spit into Holy Water. An aberration.

It even looks like Shiraz....is this representative of the producer, vintage or both?

Wow! A look into contemporary Burgundy gone wrong. More and more this will be how wines misfire, instead of the thin, tart, and underfruited bad wines of our youth

Flummoxed.
Have not tasted the 2020s yet, as I like a little age on my Burgs. Don’t have Brouillard but have Santenots and Chenes. Will open a Santenots in the next week or so.
Have been drinking 2010s with pleasure.

RPCV, i guess that it is a mix of the vintage (i heard 2020 was warm in Burgundy) and probably wine making selection.
I mostly had the village wine and the 1er Cru Santenots, from that producer, from 2016-2017-2018, and none were as concentrated or sweet or unbalaced in mouth as this 2020. I guess 2018 was warm too but their wines are great!
And i'm reading 1er Cru Brouillards supposed to be lighter, ready more quickly...
I feel bad, but today i brought back my other bottles to get refund for something else. I never brought back wine for that reason in 28-29 years... i felt that the wine was so gross, i couldn't figure how it could improve with ages.

I have more than half bottle from yesterday left. I'll try it back this week, but i feel it is hopeless.

What, Burgundy can taste bad and is poor QPR??!! Stop the presses!
Re: Biggest deception of the last 10 years
A bad, undrinkable Volnay 1er Cru? I can hear HM$ and MichaelP laughing and enjoying it at the highest point, from here.
Re: Biggest deception of the last 10 years
Sounds gross. Thanks for taking one for the team, Nicola. I have been very skeptical of 2020 Red Burgundy and haven't bought a single bottle yet (other than Bojo, which I haven't been that impressed with so far either).
I LOVE 2019 reds so far though. And 2020 whites are supposed to be great as well. The few I've had have been wonderful.

Unfortunately, not an April Fool day thing. Enjoying Champagne, way much better.
