Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
Hi,
I'm doing the rounds on the 2022 barrel tastings. It's exhausting, but exhilirating.
Lots to say, but I wanted to weigh in here with a BWE favorite, Château Corbin.
The BWE magical mystery tour visited here in 2005 (yes, that long ago...).
Anyway, i fell in love with the 2022 Corbin and seeing the reasonable prices they charge, I suggest thinking about buying into this.
It's a delicate, elegant sort of Bordeaux, and very good.
All the best,
Alex R.

Re: Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
Was it 2005 or 2015 Alex? I think the latter no? So better than the 2015 half we drank with Patrick in late 2021?
Re: Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
Sorry, ian, it must have been 2015.
Yes, some vintages of Corbin are indeed lacklustre, including the one we shared at le Terrasse Rouge (Ch. La Dominique).
Byut there have been changes at Corbin, with Nicolas Fabre coming to run much of the operation. He was assistant cellar master at Pétrus.
All the best,
Alex

Izak tasted with me and his opinion was not dissimilar to mine.
Château flavor profiles can change. Some go up 8n quality, others go down...

So they gave Michel Rolland his marching orders and shipped in the Petrus guy?

Re: Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
I need to get some 2019 in my cellar.
I've like Corbin for a long time, especially the 2015 and 2016.
I gotta retry a 2015 and see if it's as bad as you guys say.
We had a great visit there in 2015.

Trump would call the 2015 a “low-energy merlot”.

Comte Flaneur,
You are mixing things, I am afraid.
Nicolas Fabre is sort of technical director, he's not a consultant.
Michel Rolland wasn't consulting Corbin, it was one of his disciples Jean Michel Fort.
Actually, Anabelle doesn't need an oenologist to help her as she is a fully qualified oenologist herself.
Due to a communication mixup, I wasn't able to taste 2019, 2020, and 2021 together with 2022.
I can truly confirm Alex's valuation of Corbin 2022!

Izak when we went there in 2015 eagle-eyed Howard spotted a Michel Rolland check list sheet, so yes probably one of his acolytes but nevertheless from the Rolland stable.greatbxfreak wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 10:23 pm Comte Flaneur,

I wasn’t suggesting for a moment that he had grabbed hold of the steering wheel…
I have a bottle of the 2014 I must try - but my expectations are suitably reined in
I think with Corbin you sometimes get the ‘Annabelle effect’ as male tasters - who should know better - subconsciously - sort of in sleepwalk fashion - add a couple of Parker points on to the score.

Ha ha that’s a fair point Ian, she is very beautiful and charming. But it really is a wine that I find consistently solid at a reasonable price, a property that has stepped it up in the past decade, like Tour St. Christophe. And its geographic location would certainly be consistent with a terroir that SHOULD perform well, it’s basically a Pomerol, no?

Ian,
You repeat yourself too many times.
Male points here, male points there, give me a break
She makes beautiful wines, basta. Ask Jeff Leve if you don't believe me.

Re: Chateau Corbin, Saint Emilion GCC
No I would say generally good wines and reasonably good value for money - the 2014 I picked up for €27 in a supermarket in Beaune (!) - but not top tier St-Emilion? But look forward to trying the 2022 one day.greatbxfreak wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 8:27 pm Ian,
