Time to begin talking I think.

Not hearing too much about the vintage. Echoing William Kelley, a friend who just come back said it was heterogenous, and he compared it to a fresher version of 2018. He felt the Montrose was clearly the best wine, but he only tasted two FGs Mouton and Margaux

There are at least 2 BWEers out there tasting he 2022s.

I'm wondering if my teeth are permanently stained.

Today there were UGC tastings at Lascombes, Beychevelle, and Lynch Bages.

After lunch, i went to Lafite, Mouton, Calon Ségur, Cos d'Estournel, Haut Marbuzet, and Meyney.

That's what you call a full day.

I took notes and photos. Need to write thme up.

In the meanwhile, I'm back home for a late suppper and a bottle of 2011 Moulin Riche, Saint Julien.

It reminds me a little of when he said of the 1995s upon release: "Bordeaux this young is not supposed to taste this good."

Oh no. Another greatest vintage ever, or close to it.
At least I agree on his views (in retrospect) of 2003.

I’ll be interested in reading the views of others though I am not budging from my plan that 2019 will be my last EP vintage - and I have to say, I can still buy more for a reasonable price.

The 2019 vintage is a more classic style of Bordeaux and I am not convinced that an extreme vintage can retain freshness and classical style irrespective of winemaking. If I’m proven wrong then fine - but I wonder if such wines will show well in twenty years.

Alex was with me tasting 2022s and it was me as well organizing almost all the visits.

Report will be published in a month. App 300 tasted wines incl. all 1.FGs bar Latour.

I do agree with WK but want to add that 2022 is far more consistent on the Left Bank than on Right one. Yes, some winemakers overdone their wines and it is strange because you only needed a gentle vinification.

I find no comparison to 2018 but i am more eager to compare it to 2020 with more concentration and bigger tannins.

William Kelley’s notes are up. Although reasonably positive, I am going to stick to a couple of chateaux this year. VCC and Montrose.

I have not tasted a single 2022 from Bdx yet I have absolutely zero interest in the vintage and I find myself deleting every futures email I have gotten thus far and most unread. Ratings, who cares, pricing, who cares, zero interest I say. Solar vintages rarely do it for me the way classically styled ones do so verticals be damned, I am skipping this vintage. So it has been said, so it shall be done.

Backfilling is the name of the game.

I basically finished buying Bordeaux futures in any quantity with the ‘18 and ‘19 vintages. Nothing in ‘20 or ‘21. However, given the arrival of our first grandchild last year, I felt impelled to get a couple of bottles of ‘22. The offerings are still limited at this juncture, so at this point I’ve only ordered a couple of bottles of the Leoville Barton. We’ll see if anything else catches my eye.
