Under $40 (US) bordeaux that's still classic?

Post by ericindc »

So I need to backfill some daily drinkers from 2019+ as well as buy dailies for the next few vintages. What producers are still pretty classic over the last few years? I've heard Lanessan went spoofilated, so whats left that is medium bodied, not high alcohol, and doesnt have super extracted black fruits?

Many of the usual QPR suspects still seem reasonably traditional.

I’m seeing you get can recent releases of Gloria, Sociando Mallet, Ferriere, d’Armailhac, and Branaire Ducru at or just above $40. du Tertre can be had for around that price too, but while not spoofilated, they are not really traditional in profile, more middle of the road stylistically.

What about Cantemerle? Is that still traditional?

But for a true throwback winner for $15, try a Tour St Bonnet. I haven’t had any since the 2010 vintage (my first vintage was a case of the 89), but these really good for the money, they actually need 5+ years to show best, and are old school while avoiding austerity (just). I’m still enjoying my 05 Tour St Bonnet, which are still improving.

Has Lanessan really gone spoofy? Sad if so

Among the Libournaisse, try Grand Corbin Despagne and Larmande. In Pomerol I might suggest Bonalgue, but that can be hard to find, given only a couple thousand cases are made, and the Benelux seems to get a good portion. MacArthurs/Bassins used to be one of the few merchants who could source the latter, btw.
