Few wines, including 2011 Grand Cru de Bourgogne

Post by Nicklasss »

Yesterday, dinner with a couple of friends and opened a few bottles. The Nicolas Feuillatte was really "very chilled", but under the sun it was amazing. Nice fruit, quite dry, some pastries and chalk. Best entry-level bottle tasted from this house in a long time.

The Sancerre was young, typical Sauvignon of this terroir with blackcurrant boxwood, lime peel, green melon and minerals. On the palate, well balanced, freshness and slight bitterness which gives tone to the ripe fruits.

The Bandol, surprising for such a young Mourvèdre, with beautiful aromas of black fruits (prunes, black berries), wet leather, anise and blackberries. Accessible palate, well balanced between the richness of the dark red fruit, leather, liquorice side and length. The 14.5% alcohol is not really noticeable. Excellent and the best of the two reds yesterday.

Le Clos Saint Denis, although good, left me unsatisfied. The 2011 vintage makes the wine too light for a Grand Cru. Nose with a nice integrated oak, but a little dominating the red fruit (raspberries, blackberries). Mild spices. On the palate, creamy oak, but really low to medium concentration of fruit, little vegetal side, and for structure and length, well they don't exist. A bit sad.
