Quite a nice investment there, BD/WBM. The basic village wine is $90 on Winesearcher (only 1 source), and newer vintages are over $100 most places.

Great buys. The 2014 clos st jean that Marcus opened for me was awesome. I feel stupid for waiting on buying a case of it recently at a steal. Enjoy

Mmm doggie, lobster indeed.
I did indeed look on Winesearcher and found these lonely six bottles not cheap but I had to have them at $100 at a place called Grand Vin Wine Merchants out in Washington state (?), they arrived safe and sound as promised.

At the great price you got, why did you not buy more?

It was 69 here, they arrived safely nicely packed with spinning capsules and cold packets.

Like most of burgundy, Niellon’s prices have sadly shot up. Definitely a BWE effect.

Grand Vin in Olympia is where Stefan and I split a case of 2014 Niellon from, back during BWE Denver 2019. They’re a quality outfit.

I see the 2017 Clos st Jean on WS for $161, Stefan, that's too much for me.
I got it for $100, which was expensive enough, plus I have more in my cellar, plus I have the Musigny-151 stash coming this fall!

As expensive as white Burgundy is, I still almost always find it better than white Bordeaux. I guess I'm just a red Bordeaxu Wine Enthusiast!

Well done!

White Burgundy was my very first love, way back to when a wine and food nut roommate turned me on to it in the ‘70s. Wow… almost 50 years ago. I fell out of love in the ‘90s due to premox but I’ve been reeled back in. I’ve been buying Bouchard Meursault pretty regularly since MacArthur’s has been a pretty reliable source for the Perrieres and Genevrieres.

Absolutely stunning.

The fellow at GVWM advises they still have some Maltroie left if anyone is interested.

2020's (or 2019's) from Guillot-Broux, Jim. Can be had for under $50/btl most places (Genevrieres and Perrieres)- recent discovery of mine and def worth a flier if you're getting the white burg itch.

Every 2017 white burgundy I’ve tried has been so good. 2014 (rightly) gets tons of love, but I think 2017 is just as good.

My 2014 Niellon is gone (sigh). I intend to look for 2014 white Burgundies after I return to Oregon later this year.

The first monster white Burgundy I drank was a Batard Montrachet (I don't remember which) in the Caribbean Room at the Pontchartrain Hotel, New Orleans, in 1971. Tulane U. paid for dinner for Jan and me even though I was not the speaker, so I thought the least I could do was to spring for a fancy bottle of wine. The bad news is that it hooked me on white Burgundy.

And in my humble opinion every vintage of White Burgundy since 2014 has been great except for 2015.
And Niellon 1ers going for >$150 a bottle is extremely painful. But when Mugnier Musigny and Chambolles Amoureuses go for >$1,000, I expect the only solution is to find under the radar producers and hope their product deliver.

Sweet! I haven’t really tried any ‘18-‘21s yet, though I own some, but I concur about the ‘16s being excellent. The 2016 Niellon Clos du Truffliere is truly outstanding.

I just checked and I have 38 bottles of various Niellon Chassagne. Is that enough or do I need to get some more from Jim’s source?

The ‘16, ‘17, and ‘20 Bouchard Meursault Perrieres are also excellent.

I just had the 2010 recently and it was lovely. Only a touch behind the 2010 Corton Charlie next to it. Both aging glacially. I need to get some 2017 and 2020.

While one cannot have too many bottles of Niellon Chassagne, one should not ignore the great wines from Puligny, Meursault, and Chablis.

Thanks for the recommendations, Jim, I will definitely check them out.

Daniel from GVWM says that anyone making a purchase there should mention my name.

Good luck with that. After Bordeaux, white Burgundy is the main focus of my collection (champagne is third). Having heard the tantalizing rumors of the 2014 vintage from the beginning I started searching for them immediately at retail and auction. I must not have been the only one since they were very difficult to source even then and of course more so now.

I have had very few disappointments. And, praise Bacchus, not a single pre-moxed bottle yet. At the Premier and Grand Cru level they are not fully mature but they are so delicious and poised now in a slightly austere way I can’t keep my hands off them.

Just finished my Niellon audit

No 2014 Vergers left … sad face … but drank my last bottle with Patrick in Oct 2021 here in London with a sensational bottle of 1985 Talbot after an epic trip to Bordeaux with Alex before he few back to Denver.

I have 16 bottles of Chaumes Truffieres 2017 - I must confess I was disturbed by how oaky the first two bottles were - the oak seemed unintegrated and excessive - any thoughts?

Also have a case of 2017 St Jean - so overall in a strong position
