Wow, is this inky black, and the bouquet leaps from the bottle upon uncorking.

Musigny151 tipped me off on a nice pre arrival deal at $75 per bottle from Zachys, it took a couple years, but the stash has arrived!
Thanks Mark!

This seems like a MUCH more serious wine than the 2019 Lynch I uncorked the other night from a trade with Joel.
The 2019 Lynch was good, but this seems to be at another level.

Nicely done all around. I loved that wine when I tasted it at the UGC yet still dragged my feet when it was in the $70 price range on futures and now I will have to buck up and spend the $20-$30 more per bottle.

Off to Rome next week for a whirlwind trip.
We will arrive Wednesday and leave Sunday, our two travel days.
Thus, seeking advice on activities during the full 3 days we will be there, Thursday, Friday, Saturday...
I'm a bit overwhelmed with proposals, any BWE insight would be appreciated!

97 Points
I enjoy this 2019 Rauzan Segla much more than the 2019 Lynch Bages. This is a Jeff Leve kind of wine, and I endorse his 97 point rating. It is 14.5%, but it is not giving me a headache. The first thing that jumped out at me about this wine was the bouquet even out in the air on the back deck. I see comments on cellar tracker describing this as ruby, granted, my eye sight is very bad, but I see opaque purple. I have posted a picture on my website, www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com, tell me how that is ruby as opposed to opaque purple. The wine was open from beginning to end, and only got better as dinner progressed. One of the best 2019s I've tasted (though it's no 2019 Montrose), best Rauzan-Segla ever? Rivals the 1986, though VERY differently styled. A stunning, stunning wine, ends up on the classy side rather than the slutty 14.5% profile. In the end, I'm enthusiastically with Jeff: 97 points. For me, it blows away the Lynch Bages from the 2019 vintage. I am thrilled to have five more bottles. Again, much thanks Mark Golodetz for linking me to Zachys at $75 per bottle, a very fair price for this outstanding 97 point Margaux appellation wine.

Jim,

Hop on bus always good overview to get your bearings in such a short stay. One of our favourite getaways for near city outing to escape is Ville d'Este that won't disappoint and the fountains/ancient engineering marvels are incredible. https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/the-m ... ivoli.html. Have fun.

Delighted it showed so well.

I think when you come south to pick up the Niellon we should do a 2019!tasting before they close up.

Nice about the Rauzan Segla. But i think you're a bit rough with Lynch Bages.

In Roma, take one night to walk from Trevi Fountain, to the Pantheon, then Piazza Navona, and finally have diner at Trattoria Da Francesco, were the food and wines are excellent for the right price. Drink some Alto Adige white there, and Lazio red (Montiano).

Go to the coliseum by the metro : stunning! Lot of stuff near : palatinum, forum...

For wines buying, i recommend Eonoteca Costantini, toward the Vatican, on the other side of the Tiber. Great choice, good price. Castello di Verduno Barbaresco is great.

I will indeed come by when those Niellon arrive Mark, we did a little 2019 tasting in London and the wines were pretty tight.
From the bottles I've tried so far it seems like a solid vintage, some properties impressing more than others.
Montrose and Rauzan Segla have been stars in my book, but then again when are they not.
I was not overwhelmed by a 2020 Giscours I had recently.

Niellon is supposedly being shipped second week of September, which means a minimum of six weeks.

It is always fun; you can follow the boat, which often takes wild detours. As the wine is kept in temperature controlled reefers, I am usually not concerned, but one ship during Covid took a side trip to Africa. The wine was perfect when it arrived a few weeks later.

The local Costco had the 19 Rausan Segla for like $70 in June and I didn’t buy any. Long gone now. :(

IIRC, you liked 2019 Giscours, no Jim?

I did indeed CV. I’ve enjoyed most Giscours vintages for the past 2 years. The 2020 seemed very nondescript to me. Maybe just an off bottle.

And I have the ‘19 Vergers resting comfortably in the cellar if that gets me a seat at the table … but I can always bring something
else too

I have 9 of the 19 Vergers (at the $84 it cost me, I should have bought a case) but I haven’t tried one yet, so curious to hear your thoughts on it when you try one.

I paid $80 from Envoyer which was considerably better than what was available to me through our wonderful 3 tiered system of markups.

The problem with Flicinger is they charge arm and leg for shipping... :?

I toyed with opening a 2014 Rauzan Segla tonight but decided not to drink such a young wine. I opened 2002 Calon Segur instead.

1985 Rausan Segla was my Margaux bargain of the vintage. I got a case from Sokolin in NYC for $185. Long gone, every bottle was delish. I still have an 89 and a few 00 left from Rauzan Segla.

Another Chateau so, so good in the 80’s, especially 82-86, all epic. My fav might be the 86, probably my favorite non-First Growth 86.

Never had 1986, supposed to be great, but the 89-90 duo, good bottles, is kinda top for me.

1983 and 1985 are excellent too.

For a Margaux, Rauzan Segla takes it time to come around. The 1995 is now glorious, but it took some time.
