Claudius...

Post by Nicklasss »

While in British Columbia last week, an Australian friend gave me that. Bottle, that he brought back for from his last vacations "down under".

It is a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Western Australia area i guess.

Any recommendations when to drink or comments?

Thanks

The wine is the top shelf of Taylor’s.
The wine comes from the Clare Valley which is further north of Barossa.
Clare is 130klms north of Adelaide.
It has been some years since I’ve tried Taylor’s wines.
They tend to fly below the radar but James Halliday has always strongly rated them
.
They are fairly tannic when young and tend to have a violet like character with age.
If you don’t mind tannins then I see no need to keep it longer but id hold for longer.

Yeah, I get all the reports from the AWRI and wine Australia.
A few months ago there was a discussion about how tough many Bordeaux producers are having it.
I added some data from Wine Australia which showed a big fall in export sales largely driven by Chinas politics.

The longer term issues are that younger generations are not drinking as much wine. That appears to be a global issue and growth in Australian wine consumption is slowing.

The AWRI is emphasising opening up of new markets and intensifying marketing in established markets like the UK but this is easier said than done as there is plenty of competition and other nations are facing similar issues.

The most recent vintage was however a very small one based on historical levels. That is strangely a good thing as otherwise prices would have to fall.

Cheers
Mark
