A note about 2014 Chateau Coutet....

Still throwing out bottles from last weekend and that raucous group from Florida and Teyxxasss.
I had ordered six bottles of 2014 Coutet after we tasted it at the estate during our visit in 2015.
It must have been a barrel sample, I'm guessing?
I remember we had a very pleasant visit there, the people were very nice.
In any event, this was the first occasion to uncork one, with the lobsters on Friday night.
It was one of my favorite Sauternes experiences in some time. Or I guess this is Barsac.
The wine was still youthful, fresh and pure, adolescent, a gorgeous rich golden color.
The fruit was mouth-filling with apricots and peaches, but it was the fresh acidity that stood out for me.
Just absolutely lovely with the apple tart dessert cooked up by Jan.
Mmmmm.
95+ points.

I've always liked Coutet - less sweet than the norm but it makes up for it with complexity. They have always made up a significant portion of the dessert wines in our cellar, usually just a step behind Climens, a neighbor in Barsac.

Coutet is a long time favorite for Lucie and me. I particularly like young Coutet with apple tart.
