Riesling, Gamay and Nebbiolo

Post by Nicklasss »

December 23

Dinner with a couple of friends

2018 Riesling Trimbach: really very good in this vintage. Nose of lemongrass, flowers/white peaches and petroleum. Mouth with a slight richness of fruits, lemons, tangerines, but the wine quickly returns to the floral flavors, with good acidity, and length on the minerality. Very distinctive, excellent. Score: 90.

2021 Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardives: after drinking a few bottles of the regular cuvée, and seeing that 2021 was difficult in Beaujolais, my expectations were low. But in a vintage like 2021, the extra $3 per bottle is worth it! Not that the wine is extraordinary, but clearly the nose is better, still notes of morello cherries, grape berries, with a slight meaty side, flowers. Medium intensity, very drinkable on the palate, but more assertive than the regular, with purple fruits, grape berries, red berries, a slight candy anise side, and granite. Alright. Score: 90.

2017 Barbaresco Montefico Azienda Agricola Carlo Giacosa: wine purchased in Italy this summer, I don't believe it is available in Canada. But it was a great wine! Pale color, a little brownish. Fine, complex nose, small wild strawberries, red berries, blackberries, incense, licorice and smoke. On the palate, unmistakable nebbiolo: flavors of several types of small red fruits, anise, licorice, cinnamon bark, wilted roses. Mouth with acidity, tannins, long finish on cherries, smoke and spices. No disappointment here. Score: 92-93.

More beautiful wines!
