Just purchased six bottles of 2016 Lafite in original wood case at 20% off in tax free New Hampshire.

I’m mad. I’m a madman.

Good work, BD. Should be quite a wine in - how many decades?

We will visit Maine in 2049. Will you save a bottle to share with us? Or take it to That Great Tasting Room in The Sky if we don't hang around that long?

Ha yes I suspect my heirs will drink more than I do, or sell them off.
I'll save one for the Great Tasting Room in the Sky!

What a buy! Lafite from my favorite vintage... but ready when?

My last purchase of red Bordeaux are 3 bottles of the 2016 Lafon Rochet.

Should we start a pool on when Jim cracks his first bottle?

If so, the real question is whether we choose months or years...

My bet is that he can't keep his hands off at least one in 2024 :)

Once one goes they all go. Must be strong. For now they are safely tucked away with my THREE owc six packs of 2016 Mouton. Insanity plus.

Well done!
You are wise to keep hands off.
Leave them all alone in the dark and who knows, maybe they’ll multiply?

Man, I'm going to be drinking great when I'm 109 years old.

Jim,

2016 Lafite was a stunner the last time I tasted it and this happened in April 2019. 99-100p.

I have always had a sweet spot for this property, and in September this year I tasted for the first time a truly eternal 2003 Lafite! 100p.

Good objective.

But J. Robinson recommends to drink between 2026-2045, so you should have fun with your 2016 Lafite before 109 years.

Lafite and Mouton are quite possibly the best two wines of the vintage - I have both but not the same quantity of Mouton!

Like GBF, there is a fellow by the name of Mr. Leve who rates it 100 points.
Hey, we only live once, I say. Picked up some more 2019 Montrose today, the tax free Granite State has a TWENTY percent off sale, I'm not sure we've ever seen THAT, Gerry.

Mind sharing what the prices came to for the 19 Montrose and 16 Lafite? Always curious about this. Might have to make a road trip up one day.

Ha ha, there are NH deals, Joel, and then there are New Hampshire DEALS....

I'll defer to my assistant Gerry on any further inquiries about the SECRET New Hampshire website.

I'm subscribing to the Comte cash-is-trash mantra.
If my six bottles of Lafite 2016 decline in value in 20 years when I'm dead, well then so be it.
I'll drink a bottle or two in my late 70s with Nicola and MC, who will be well into their mid-40s by then.
And I'll tell my brother to uncork one at my funeral.
And as for the rest.... The great Tasting Room in the Sky with the mighty Stefan, I say....
Or less glamorously, paying off my nieces and nephews student loans....
I'll save at least one for the great tasting room with the mighty Stefan, though....
Mmmm... sniffing the Lafite lead pencil from that cabernet vintage already.

The ‘cash is trash’ mantra applied when the Fed held rates at near zero. But now it looks like the Fed will start cutting rates in March.

Trump said he will fire Fed Chair Powell on day one if he wins, so Biden and the White House seem to be colluding with the Fed to juice the economy this year to thwart Trump and save the Fed from being destroyed.

Either way Mouton and Lafite 2016 will be good investments - as will gold.

Kind of a wonky website trying to figure out which store has what in stock, and the filters dont always work consistently, but this is the website for the NH state liquor stores: https://www.liquorandwineoutlets.com/

A number of 2016 Bordeaux are listed at 20% off or more (2016 Haut Brion marked down from $708 to $516), though 2016 Lafite at $864 doesn’t appear to be one of them at this time. Jim probably cleared them out… well done!

I might have pulled the trigger on the 2016 Haut Brion if I’d been able to figure out which store had the bottles. Maybe a call?

Yeah, the regular site can be confusing David, they don’t always list everything in stock, and sometimes don’t list vintage. “Last chance” items are not subject to the sale.

There are still a few bottles of 2019 Montrose left in Portsmouth, it comes to $143 per bottle with the 20% off, it's ok, not great.
The Lafites were $600-something at 20% off, there are still some left in the Hampton North and South stores, not listed for some reason.

I'm set on '19 Montrose. It was ~$125 from Macarthurs as a future.

If I could figure out where the '16 Haut Brion is, and if they'd hold them for pickup in the summer, I might pull the trigger. I'll call them Monday. Do they usually know what's in stock in which stote if you call?

Looks like the 2016 Haut Brion is a "last chance" item, David, meaning it's not available for the 20% sale.
It is Item #34332.
Looks like 6 bottles available for $515.79 at Store 50 in Nashua at the Willow Spring Mall.
If you're interested I could pick some up.

So, what can you say about a guy that goes 200 miles out of his way on his trip home from work to pick up a few bottles of fine Bordeaux for a buddy he sees maybe every year or two? Just because the buddy posted on BWE that he’d buy those bottles of 2016 Haut Brion (at INSANE pricing) if he could figure out the logistics. If that isn’t the true spirit of BWE, I don’t know what is.

Thank you Jim. My first sip of 2000 Conseillante tonight is to you. :) :) :)

And then there's "The Krug Situation."

So the current New Hampshire sale, until the end of January, is TWENTY percent off.
Not the usual 15% off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Gerry, but I don't think we have ever seen TWENTY percent off.
Certainly New Hampshire is touting it as the biggest sale ever, and I have no reason to dispute them.

I got like 9 bottles of 171 Krug at 15% off, which was already a crazy price.
At 20% off, it gets down to $125, which is insanity plus, as this wine is routinely selling for upwards of $300.
I have no idea how New Hampshire routinely offers Krug at such a discounted price, even before its sales.
The 20% sale created a feeding frenzy scene, like in a Bond movie where the bad guys satisfyingly get eaten up by the hybrid piranhas imported from the Amazon.

The thing about NH and Krug is that that they seem to endlessly replenish at the same price when they sell out. I have no idea who their supplier is. I communicated with one of the main Nashua stores and they told me that the situation is indeed insanity plus, but that... there may be more coming. I'm checking the site daily, if more comes in while on sale I'll buy massive quantities and offer them to BWEers if you can figure out the best way I can get this to you guys. I say this a little reluctantly because the last BWE Krug transaction is what caused some angst this summer with Blanquito and the other sensitive millennials, but I don't dwell on these things.

In any event... I'll continue to monitor "The Krug Situation" and check whether any more bottles come into inventory before January 31st....

Ha, 6 bottles just appeared in Seabrook and I snatched them, we'll see tomorrow morning whether they fulfill my order.
That's a crazy price for Krug 171.

Wow, $125 is insane. Sure that’s not for 375s?

If you’re serious about buying extra and there’s availability put me down for 4.
