SCOOP : THE LAST WINES BEFORE MY BIG 5-0
Posted: Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:12 am
Yes, yes and yes (or no, no and no)!
Will hit the big 5-0 tomorrow at 4:20 am. Yes i don't look like. No, i really feel like. Yes my wines are getting older too. No, wisdom is coming in, shouting out my wilderness and creativity. Yes, near retirement and the eternal run, skiing, biking and BWE parties. No, run or ski or bike or party 30 min and i'm done.
Tomorrow, for the big day, JeanFred and AlexH are coming for diner. We'll see how it will end. But, i have a 1997 Fonseca Vintage i was keeping for my 50.
Tonight, ending my pre-50 with :
2020 Bersan Saint Bris : sauvignon in Chablis area. Quite yellow, with lot of kimmeridgian soil on the nose and mouth. Rich acid apples, flowers, fresh, good but not convincing.
2020 Mee Godard Morgon Grand Cras : ambitious Beaujolais. Dark ref (not purple like most Beaujolais). Nose of rocks, very concentrated darkberries, red apples skin, red berries, something meety. Mouth is concentrated, but in a way that gamay stays gamay, with lot of granitic tones, red fruits, mid red mid violet flowers. Tough to assess. Like blood on rock. Very long, very tannic. Kind of the IA of Beaujolais! Disturbingly amazing! Of course, i'm thinking of GreatBxFreak while enjoying that very special wine!
See you tomorrow. Eye blink to all of you.
