J'ai hâte de passer un excellent week-end BWE à Montréal avec mes amis de la grande nation du Canada. Nous boirons plusieurs grands vins du nord du Médoc !

It's funny. The Québécois défend the French language far more than the French do themselves.
It is very common for English words to be simply adopted in France whereas their use is monitored according to à set of laws ln la Belle Province.
I bring this up because Jim used the term "week-end", but I was led to believe that in Canada people say - or are meant to say "fin de semaine."
Care to weigh in here Nic?

And 2013 Dom Perignon and 2016 Pol Roger to start the festivities. A good old fashioned BWE gathering in Montreal. The 1989 Mouton was sublime with the venison. The 2010 Montrose was Parkerized, I enjoyed the 2010 Calon Segur, big and rugged but a great match with the meal. The 2002 Rieussec was delicious as well. On to my first UGC this afternoon and then another dinner tonight. The Canadiens are all looking splendid and lovely.

Looks like you had a great BWE get together.

Interesting that Nic has a multicolored beard. I remember when he was too young to grow hair on his face.

Yeah, one of the first years I attended the UGC I went out with industry folk afterwards and let’s just say it was too much (UGC + dinner wines), but otherwise, how did you find the wines from ‘21?

They are defined by lower alcohol levels in the 13+% range on both banks, JC, I’ll try to report more when I get home. Haut Bailly stood out to me with its long finish. We also liked the Duhart Milon/Clerc Milon/ d’Armailhac trio. A personal favorite was de Lamarque, my epiphany wine. Talbot, Cantemerle, were very true to form. DDC, SHL, and Clinet generated enthusiasm in the group. I loved the Pavie Macquin. It was too much fun, I didn’t do enough spitting.

What great weekend in Montreal but I must say I'm getting a little old for the late nights and power drinking. Loved being there and sharing the weekend with good friends but I'll need a few days to recover. Some great wines, laughs and pretty good food. As Jim commented 2021 is a more classic vintage low on alcohol with a general trend to less extraction. For me Clinet was super sexy and wine of the show with d'Armailhac in my mind a fabulous qpr with Clerc Milon and Duhart Milon not far behind. Talbot lovely and Leoville Barton a never go wrong choice. Stefan will be happy with the nameless wine showing very well. Many good wines shown yesterday. I went through 67 wines and thank god for spitting because I'd never had made it to dinner at 9pm. We'll see how the next few days go but I'm pretty bagged right now watching this seesaw of a Bills/Chiefs game.

We had a very lovely 2011 Haut Brion at the Saturday night dinner, it was elegant and expressive on the nose with classic Haut Brion tobacco. A feminine effort, drinking well now, no need to age it longer. We revisited the 2010 Montrose from the night before and it had toned down a bit, I was trying to decide whether to buy more. I'll probably buy one more bottle and hold it for a decade. The 1996 Lynch Bages was very cabernet, powerful nose, distinctively 1996. I'm not sure I'm completely onboard with how the 1996s are developing in general.... we had the 2003 Clos des Lambrays that I thought was a little more reserved than expected but, likewise, was delicious with the food. The 2002 Rieussec was a "revelation," as Comte might say, drinking beautifully with the creme brûlée. It outclassed the 2014 Coutet, which was complex on the nose but not complex on the palate.
