2008 Lynch Bages

It was my older one's birthday, and I always open my kids' birthday vintage wines for their birthdays.

I decanted it for 2 hours prior to consuming first glass. The nose showed off charcoal, cedar and a bit of black fruit. On the palate, notes of currants, cherries, spice box and hint of tobacco. It had nice acidity and barely any hint of alcohol, which I liked. Tannins are still pronounced but not to the point of needing more hibernation. Will improve further, but I would not mind having it again the way it is showing now.

Sounds nice, CV, I had a couple of 2008s at Christmas, a Leoville Poyferre and an LMHB.
I have a case of the Poyferre, it may be time to crack it open.

I had the 2009 Lynch Bages at UGC and I really loved it. Bought half a case and 4 splits of 09 LB. I think I rated it a whisker behind 2009 Purple Baron.

09 vs 10

Put the 09 up against the 10 last summer and the 09 was expressive and ready to go with its ripe blackberry profile that was rich and generous whereas the 10 was somewhat closed by comparison but did have a more complex flavor profile. 09 > 10 at this stage for my country palate.

With that said, I find the 09s as a whole much more drinkable than the 10s I have had so perhaps the above result is not really all that surprising. If you have an 09 Leoville Barton, you should give that a go as it is gorgeous.

Jim gave me a bottle of the 2008 some years ago, and i still have it.

Looking forward to it, as your very positive report on that 2008 Lynch Bages, Chateau Vin, will surely work against my patience...

Did not had the 2009, but i clearly think that the 2019 is an impressive Lynch, that will need another 20 years...
