Yes, I think this is a more accurate assessment of 2014. I love how they use the word “restraint” up front, which is to me the hallmark of this vintage, but in a positive, not negative, way.

Same reaction here. They describe well what I am getting out of the 2014s. I found their comparison to 2002 interesting. Jim was a big fan of 2002. I thought he was unduly influenced by the MacArthur heist. To me at the time they were too lean and reserved. Over the years my preferences shifted. I really like the similar 2014s. I bet I’d also like a lot of 2002s I didn’t care for almost 20 years ago.

I liked the 2003s more than most people, and enjoyed them when they were young. Most 2003s have fallen apart now, and the 2002s are coming into their own. Even 2002 Latour gives pleasure now even if it will not be fully mature for 5-10 years. I found the 2002s undrinkable when they were young, but their structure was so good that I thought they would be my kind of wine at age 20+, and they are.
