Dinner at Le Bernardin.

We had such a wonderful experience last night at Le Bernardin in midtown Manhattan. The staff was wonderful, so professional, courteous, well-versed, but in no way pretentious or snobby. Our sommelier was wonderful, I focused on the white Burgundy page of the list and she led me to the 2018 Domaine des Lambrays Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres, the match with the seafood courses from the chef's tasting menu was nothing short of spectacular. A once in a lifetime dinner.

Love Le Bernardin and its seafood focused menu that pretty much always delivers in spades.

The food part of the menu looks great; glad it was great.

I did not know that Lambray made a Folatieres. Did the Som decant it? Papa Doc was a fan of decanting white Burgundies, and I should have followed his advice tonight. We drank a 2017 Berthelemot Chassagne Abbaye de Morgeot with pan fried flounder. Unimpressive at first, with air it blossomed.

It was not decanted, but it seemed very open and expressive of its terroir from the get go. A bit warm on the first taste but she brought more ice and we were good to go….

I love the cuisine of Eric Ripert and the service at Le Bernadin but I would like it even more if they let me bring my own wine :? .

Last time I was in NY I tried to get a weekday reservation there exactly one month in advance as they require but the only dinner slots available were 5PM or 9:30PM a few seconds after the reservation line opened.

Oui I thought we were going to have to do 5pm but a 6:30pm slot opened up so I snatched it on Wednesday night.
I've been thinking about that meal for the past 48 hours, the staff was so nice to us and the food/wine match was one of those things that makes life worth living...

I could not find a wine list for Le Bernardin. Is there one online?

No I did not see one on line, it is pretty extensive, but of course pricey.
We had a glass of Louis Roederer NV to start, then the Domaine des Lambreys, then a glass of Gevrey Chambertin with the final red wine based course and dessert.

When I go and I do not go all too frequently, I generally opt for their wine pairings and am never left disappointed at said choice.

My favorite North America restaurant. Love to chat up the Sommeliers as I learn a little each time.
