VLT to Commemorate the NEW BWE

I thought it would be a good idea to hold a VLT (Virtual Live Tasting) to celebrate the New BWE. It seems like it is about time, anyway. The VLT is a uniquely BWE phenomenon and is always a good time. I was thinking of doing the '95 GPL. Any thoughts are welcome. It would be nice to do this in February.

Roberto,

I like the idea, and hope to be a part of the VLT.

Great Jon. Do you have the '95 GPL?

Roberto,

I do have the 95 GPL. I have been waiting for a good reason to open one. I think this qualifies.

Hmm, no '95 GPL here, but if I can make the date I may just open a '96 to keep you all honest...

First, I'd like to see what people think of the '95 GPL. Then we can talk dates. It will most likley be a Friday which is the day we have usually done in the past.

I'd be interested in this, but I can't stretch my budget to Grand Puy Lacoste '95 at the minute. If we can decide on something a bit cheaper I'm in. Maybe the '04? Or something more esoteric.

I did actually by a Chateau de Reignac the other day... that might be a bit controversial though :)

I had the 95 a few years ago and enjoyed it; unfortunately not in stock in the wine dungeon.

I have the 96, we can do a compare and contrast between different wines different palates. It will be just like the blind men and the elephant.

I have the 96 GPL as well. A compare and contrast tasting would be very interesting. I'll have to see if Erika can help me with the leftovers ;-)

I'm thinking that we should do a '95/'96 GPL mini-vertical theme for the VLT. What do folks think of this?

OK, you got me. Virtual Life Tasting?

That just posting starting at a specified hour or some messaging thing. I mean, I got both 1995 and 1996 (and 1998\1999\2001 GPL, heck, might have 2000).

You got it almost exactly - Virtual Live Tasting is a live chat where we all get online together in a chat room rather than the BB and share contemporaneous impressions.

Alch, if my memory serves me correct, didn't you participate in one of the first VLT's?

Anything more than an hour ago I don't remember.

Except things 45 years ago. Crystal Clear.

What did we try?

Alch, I can't remember. I want to guess is was a GL. Perhaps the '86. Back in the day when we were tannin junkies. I remember you were talking about your cat. Does that trigger your memory?

We had the '88 GL I believe, Bob, or was it the '89? '88 I think.

OK. Wasn't in there as I never had those wines.

Damn.

I'd love to have a cellar full of 1988 and 1989 Bordeaux.

Or even just a few bottles.

Jim,I think it was the '89. Whuzzup___ was staying with me that weekend and I remember he and I taking turns at my computer! Alch, I think you were auditing the tasting. You did not have the wine but you logged into the chat to say hi.

Those were good times.

I just checked on the "old" BWE, Bob, it looks like it was the '88 Gruaud Larose, way back in November 2001! Sherry-Lehman had them on sale for $47. Man does time fly by!

How does the weekends after the Convention work for those interested? April 10th or 17th, for example?

Rick, we're going to do a '95/'96 GPL virtual shootout. Do you have either?

Just sourced a 95 GPL. What time do you normally have the tasting? Hopefully not TOO late...

I could do either date, but the 10th would be better for me. I have both vintages ready to go.
