BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
Rob and Sue shipped a mixed case of wines up to Maine for BWE Maine '09.
I don't know if I should disclose them or keep them as a surprise for BWE Maine attendees.
Let me just say... We are going to be drinking VERY well in the Great State of Maine this weekend!

I am so jealous already. Instead of joining you guys in Maine, I've been installing stuff in my daughter's apartment. A labor of love, no doubt, but if I could only be in two places at once.
Have a great time!

Jealous/envious already. We were really looking forward to another visit to Maine but this adds insult to injury. Don't keep us in suspense. Have a great time.

Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
We'll get you guys up here next summer.
Judging from the contents of Rob's package, looks like we're going to have a little preview of the '89/'90 tasting. That's all I'm going to say. That's all I'm going to say....

Rob's wines have been unpacked and are standing at the ready in my cellar, awaiting the arrival of BWEers this weekend....

We can't wait to get there!
Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
Jim:
We are honored to be invited to your home and meet your family and friends.
We made it Rockport and are chilling for a few days.
The room has a fantastic view of the bay.
Maine is stunningly beautiful.
Drivers can be a little scarey. But I'm sure the tourist can get in the way after a while.

Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
Well done, Rob, well done! Welcome to the Great State of Maine! Boy, looks like this great New England September weather is going to continue while you guys are here.
I'm really glad to see you guys up here, this is something we've been talking about for years, and we've finally been bringing it to reality with first Nic/Marie-Claude a couple summers ago, then Rick/Kathy last year, now expanding it a little further this year. Nick and I were saying we need to take a little roadtrip down to North Carolina sometime in the next year or two. BWE + Maine seems like such a natural combination, we may need to make this an annual September event!

Hah, I thought Rob and Susan were going to Rockport, MA! I didn't realize you were talking about Rockport, ME. So forget all that advice we tried to give you!!
It was great meeting you both--we had a lovely evening. Sorry we had to blow out of there to get home to the baby-sitter. My favorite wines of the night had to be the 1990 Le Bon Pasteur, 1997 Haut Brion and '96 Cos d'Estournel. The '02 Cos was a bit too young and the '86 Domaine de Chevalier a bit too old, but both had their own charms to offer.
Complete line-up was:
1994 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Brand
2006 Francois Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Clos Habert
1990 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Vintage Reserve
1996 Veuve Clicuqot Champagne Vintage Reserve
1995 Raveneau Chablis Montee de Tonnere
2006 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Temperence Hill Vineyard Willamette Valley
1990 Chateau Le Bon Pasteur Pomerol
1997 Chateau Haut Brion Pessac Leognan
1996 Chateau Cos d'Estournel St. Estephe
2002 Chateau Cos d'Estournel St. Estephe
1986 Domaine de Chevalier Pessac Leognan
1986 Chateau Rieussec Sauternes
Something for you guys to build on and surpass up in Lewiston!

Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
Well done, Michael, very well done.
Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
Like most 1986s, 1986 Domaine de Chevalier Pessac Leognan had the tannins wrestling with fruit. In this case the tannins had the fruit pinned to the mat.
Re: BWE Maine: I just unpacked the Daytons' wines
We'll have to see how the Domaine de Chevalier is doing tonight. Dan (my older son) and I finished off the last glass of the Le Bon Pasteur and Haut Brion yesterday and they were both singing. Very different styles, but both really nice and no sign of fading on either of them.
Rob and Susan, sorry we didn't have time to show you around the city a little more. Next time you're in the area, we'll give you the grand tour. There's a lot of history packed into such a small city, although it was hard just moving around this weekend with all of the college kids back in town. The city usually isn't that hectic.
Looking foward to BoothBay Harbor.
