How the internet is changing wine criticisim

Post by michael »

Saw this article on Slate today (http://www.slate.com/id/2229518/pagenum/all/#p2) as validation of what I've been thinking for a while now. The internet is weakening the influence of the "famous wine critic" role. Since the 90's the number of regions producing top flight wine has expanded substantially, as has the number of venues for amateurs to share tasting notes and feedback with large audiences (BWE, CellarTracker, etc). This is not a trend I see changing anytime soon. After Parker retires, it's hard to imagine anyone ascending to his level of influence again.
