NWR: Scary times

Just read that there was a Facebook poll on whether Obama should be killed.
Just watched a Chicago kid get beat to death on the evening news.
And an Iranian girl bleed to death on a sidewalk.
And a Yale girl smothered to death.
Women having their genitals mutilated in Africa.
And madmen screaming about JFK conspiracies at the U.N.
Watched missiles launching from the sands of Iran.
Glenn Beck calling the president a racist.
People losing their homes, losing their jobs, credit card companies charging 29%.
There is violence in the streets, vitriole on the talk shows, screaming for blood.

It seems like there's a bad moon risin' out there....

I hear you, Jim. It's as if balance, reason, and compassion are words that no longer have a place in this world. I am not keen on what I may have to look forward to during the rest of my years. In a strange sort of way, I feel glad that I am not 25 now!

Has the world ever been other than a crazy, mixed-up place?

Let us console ourselves with philosophy and good wine.

Palin finished her autobiography months ahead of schedule. She is either an incredibly hard worker, or found there really wasn't much to say.

And the 1989 Chateau Lynch Bages might lose on October 17th... to other 1989...

Isn't that scary Jim?

They're gonna have to put up something better than the overrated '89 Haut Brion and LMHB for that to happen, Nic....

Does Lafite or poor old dumb Ausone have a chance? It would be a shame if some wannabe 5th growth came out on top.

Lafite and Ausone are not in the blind tasting fifth flight, Stefan.
We purposely put the overrated 1989 Haut Brion and 1989 La Mission in there to expose these wines for what they are: Robert Parker myths.

The Red Baron has been waiting to reclaim its throne after the heavily biased judgment in Chicago. Do not discount its strength and stamina, do not be fooled by its beauty. Many contenders now hiding in shame have underestimated the Baron. In its last interview this is what the Baron had to say:

"I'm not the greatest; I'm the double greatest. Not only do I knock 'em out, I pick the round"

"It's just a job. Vines grows, bees pollinate, yeast ferments. I beat other wines up"

"I done beating the right-bankers, I done tussled with a Lafite; double blind tasting, aged in damp dark cellar; only last week, I won a vertical against my brothers, a horizontal against my neighbors, diagonal against some new-world pretenders; I'm so mean I make medicine sick"

"Champions aren't made in cellars or vats, champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision."

My money is on the Baron!

As for Palin's upcoming book, the NY Times quoted someone as saying it comes with crayons, a Palin-English dictionary, and aspirin... :D
