For my 65th, Lucie served grilled quail, roasted vegetables, home made bread, and we drank

1978 Margaux. The funky nose hides the Margauxberries, but "this nose just gets better and better," says Lucie. The wine is light in the mouth but is firm in the mid palate and has delicious red fruit. In the last 1/3 of the bottle the bouquet intensifies. stefan 90. Lucie 90.

With an incredible rhubarb-orange tart we molested a baby.

1999 d'Yquem. This was decanted and poured. The sweetness of the wine cuts into the acid of the tart. Strong mineral notes develop. As with most Yquems, you cannot spit the taste out. s 92. L 90.

When will you leave your job and enjoy the good life?

I, too, have a couple of special bottles that are waiting either for my 60th or, more likely, my retirement at 65+.

The way things are going here, it's necessary to work longer and longer... while, at the same time, people over 50 are virtually excluded from the job market.

Tonight we drank a 2007 St. Innocent Zenith. Mark did a great job in 2007, producing wines that will be very nice to drink while waiting for the bigger vintages to come around.

I got lucky tonight in that Lucie passed on left over '99 Yquem! I wish that I had bought a case of this as it would be very interesting to drink one 375 a year for the next 24.

"The Dean" walks into "the Senior Faculty Member"'s office and sits down.

The Dean: "Listen, you've been a great asset to this university for many years, but you're not that active in research anymore and I could really use your faculty line to bring in a young, hungry, hotshot researcher to take us to the top."
Senior Faculty Member: "Okay, what are you offering?"
Dean: "I'll give you your full salary, your own office, and an administrative assistant if you just accept an emeritus position and retire."
Senior Faculty Member: "I have my full salary, I have my own office and I have an administrative assistant. Dean, I'm already retired!"

Happy Birthday Bill! I tried retirement for six months, I was bored to death after three months. Talking about wine three days a week and getting paid for it, is the best job I've ever had! I strongly recommend it to anyone that wishes to start a "Second Life" after working one for more than 30 years.

I haven't posted in some time as my computer crashed and I've just been reading BWE on my wifes computer. Thanks to JCNorth, I've signed in on my Wifes computer and will be more active again.
