BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
Anyone available to get together for a casual holiday tasting/dinner?
Although they will potentially suffer travel fatigue since I arrive NYC on 25 Dec, I have a few interesting bottles of Bordeaux I have previously brought to Dubai that I can bring to NYC.
Looking forward to it!

I can make a tasting on 12/27, probably. I'm booked the rest of the time.

Michael P,
Arv has moved back to Cali.
Good to hear you are back to the States, perhaps I can make the late Dec dinner.

I'll try to make it, Michael, but it is going to depend on my court schedule.

Is anyone around on the evening of Saturday the 26th?
Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
Jill and I are back from our travels the 27th in the evening. Sorry. We can conceivably join you the 28th or 29th unless we're too jet lagged.
Best

Would have loved to join, but I'm out-of-town for the whole week.

Two maybes????
Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
Reviewing our schedule with the cruise director, we're out. We hope you have a great gathering!

Tom: I might normally suggest we come to DC, but given my tipr is about +15 hours in the air each way, for a 7 day visit, I think even a few hour train to DC is too much to contemplate!
Hopefully Blanquito and Bd can do it 27 Dec.
Anyone else?

Acela to DC is a little over 2 hours each way and if you could do the 26th, I'll find us a place.Michael-P wrote:Tom: I might normally suggest we come to DC, but given my tipr is about +15 hours in the air each way, for a 7 day visit, I think even a few hour train to DC is too much to contemplate!

A few suggestions:Michael-P wrote:And where can we go in NYC that is corkage friendly?
Fabio Piccolo Fiore, 44th Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave. BWE should have enough clout by now to hold a corkage-free dinner at this Italian restaurant in Midtown East. If you call, ask for Tiziano. Decanting service and passable stems.

Square Meal in the Upper East Side. Minimal corkage fee (less than $5 pb). I haven’t eaten in a while, but always remember the good American comfort food. Stems are OK, but you may want to bring your stems if you’re drinking serious wines. I remember Blanquito posting about his dinner here.

Gavroche Bistro in Chelsea/West Village area. Nice French bistro setting, with regular bistro fare. Excellent mussels dishes/appetizers. Last time I went, corkage was supposedly $10 pb, but we were only charged $25 for bringing 5 bottles (a party of 4). But, that was in 2008. I think you can call and negotiate corkage (they may sound gruff, but they’re OK to deal with).

Tribeca Grill in Tribeca. If you plan on a Monday night, the restaurant is corkage-free. Excellent wine service, good food and you may even spot one of the owner (Bobby de Niro) doing what he did before becoming an actor by helping out with the busboy duties during a busy night.

I'm only in NYC the 27, so feel free to write me out if a larger group can be rallied for another date.
Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
My apologies, but since my cellar resides in San Francisco, and I in Dubai, there's not much of my wine here in the desert. So given the 4 aged bottles of Bordeaux I have in Dubai, I plan to bring:
82 Gay (I am very curious about as I love poms and have never had this year Gay)
79 Margaux (the first bottle from a case I have, was tasted blind in SF at a BWE dinner in August and I was not impressed vs the blind 88, which I adore and showed amazingly, and a blind 78, which I typically find wonderful but did not show well either compared to the 88).
Now the next question is when and where and who is gathering?

Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
I booked for 4 people (hoping some of you will rally!) at 730p:
27 Dec - Fabio
28 Dec - Tribecca
Which gives some flexibility for whichever night we might converge on.

Dubai is toast isn't in Michael?...Headed back to its roots as a fishing village, no?
If I was in town I would definitely be up for it
Re: venues I cannot recommend Fabios highly enough...it is well located adjacent to GCT and I eat there about once a month. I have never once ordered off the list...not only are they corkage friendly they are very welcoming and the food is generally excellent.

I thought Abu Dhabi ponied up some bailout bucks?
I too wish I could get up there. Another vote for Fabio's - great venue.

I'll be game on either date. Great place for Monday night would be Apiary, free corkage and full of wine lovers.

Are we on for 27 or 28?

Re Dubai.......
The good thing about being a consultant is that when times are good or bad they need us. We currently have a team advising (during bad times) the banks that have loans with Dubai World. We currently have a team advising (during good times) Abu Dhabi (just down the road) on their nuclear power programme. Etc.
The fish is till very fresh and tasty.

BD just advised he can't make it for either Sun or Mon.
Blanquito and Leo: are you both still up for tonight?
Should I also bring a port for our winter dinner?

Tonight isn't looking possible for me. My flight to Rochester was cancelled at LaGuardia after they made us wait for 3 hrs at the airport, so I rented a car and won't be back in NYC until around 9ish tonight.
If y'all meet up, have a great evening.

Blanquito: any other time this week?
Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
Michael,
Would you like to do Monday at Apiary?

Re: BWE offline NYC (26-30 Dec)?
Leo: No one else so far for either Sun or Mon, and although Apiary looks great (I looked online and would love to try it sometime), I have just now agreed to go to New Jersey on Mon night to see old friends and have dinner at their house (but they are not wine people).
Maybe more of us will be available later in the week? I would like to get at least a little critical mass than just 2 of us!
