TN 2006 Produttori Barbaresco

Post by jal »

With some pappardelle in duck ragu, I just bought some of this and it is absolutely awesome! Bursting with red fruits, very aromatic, bright and shiny but focused and very deep. A very long finish. This is for Nebbiolo as well as Burgundy lovers. And the price just can't be beat.

I thought about buying some of this about a year ago. I wish I had, except, I seem to have a fair amount of Barolo now (but no Barbaresco). I think it was offered in the mid 20s?

Jacques,
Have you tried the '05? I thought the '05 was great but that it had aggressive tannins. I was wondering if the '06 would potentially be more open/younger drinking at this stage. There are lots of bottles of the '05 around at app. $28. Interestingly, the WA rates '05 Piedmont 93 and '06 93, while WS gives '06 an 89. The '06 Produttori Barbaresco sounds very tempting. The only other one I tried was the '03, which also had serious levels of tannin. But I loved that one, too! I need a more comprehensive/comparative rating from the last word source - BWE.

I didn't try the '05 Chris. The '06 is the first young Produttori I've ever had. I usually drink them a lot more mature, but I wanted to try a bottle this time. I didn't find the tannins too obtrusive.

I had the 04 and the 05 during the past week.

The 05 seems like it's going to be very good but it's going to need time. It's very tight right now but it definitely has enough stuffing and finesse to evolve into something very good.

The 04 has been pretty amazing and open since release. It may not last as long as the 01 or the 05.

Thanks, Paul. I was a little thrown by the '05 because I thought for some odd reason that it was a lighter, more forward vintage (maybe a WA note?). Apparently, that's not the case. I will keep my eyes open for the '04 and '06.
