  • 2006 Château d'Armailhac - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (4/24/2010)
Took a break from my 2010 wine fast the other night and had a couple glasses of this wine. It is one of my favorite 2006s so far. The oak seems to have toned down quite a bit from the last time I had it late last year. No sharp edges, true to Pauillac, representative of that Mouton/Pontet Canet neighborhood. I like this better than the '06 Clerc Milon. Rating: 91 points. (91 pts.)

You tempt me to buy some, Jim. I have '05 but no '06.

Isn't Clerc Milon your least favorite classified growth?

Yes I've never had much luck with Clerc Milon, although I have a case of the 2004 in my cellar.

Jim,
I thought the 2004 Clerc Milon was excellent the night we tried it together with Blanquito, Ramon and Ian at Cafe Loup. I had a bottle later that was a little disjointed. My friend Paul, who is a wine professional, says that 2004s are generally not drinking well right now. So, don't bother to taste it now if you're wondering! But in any event, I'm glad to hear that you liked the '06 d'Armailhac. I think it's great.

My case of 2004 Clerc Milon is sitting at the bottom of a pile of cases, I'll crack it open in about fifteen years.

Good spot for it but do you think the wine will last that long?

There are some who think that is too young to be drinking Bordeaux....
If a Bordeaux can't last twenty years, it is not real Bordeaux....

I know. I just think a little taste at the 15 year mark may be in order. Also, not every wine/vintage will last a super long time.
