I think we're test-driving some "BWE" wines from the seventies in a few weeks.

Gail and I are all in - we're down to only 42 different Bordeaux from the 70's. But 75 Mouton is a strong opening bet, Ian.

I have a couple of bottles of 1970 Yquem on "Pre-Arrival" at Premier Cru, I'll bring one if it arrives by then. I will also bring a couple of reds, I will know which as soon as I check my inventory.

I might have two btls of 1970 Mouton Baron Philippe. I'll drink one to make certain it's worth bringing. I like the 1979s and may bring wine from that vintage. The 79 Du Tertre is excellent. I've had it three times in the last two years and it was still fresh with a lot of fruit. I'm going to try and source a magnum of it soon.

I love Fabios, I'm glad we are going back again. I've been to Del Posto twice in the last six months my impressions "Ho-Hum"

Am I still included? I seem to have missed the cut some where along the line.

I can bring a 1971 Climens (which I hear is other-worldly), if that's of interest.

Does anyone want to try the overrated 1970 Palmer? I have been waiting for a chance to get rid of this swill.

We'll also bring something good, of course. Maybe a 1970 La Lagune and something to fit a hole after others announce.

I'll probably be trading some bottles with Tom for an appropriate '70s contribution. Will there be a "smoking circle" at the end?

I've got a bottle of 1975 Latour that I could bring.

I will certainly vote for that 1971 Climens - a great one for sure.

Naturellement Patrick...but now we are up to 13. Jay are you coming?

And thank you guys for your very generous offers of things to bring...I have updated the list accordingly

My thought is that we should not be so strict on numbers this time though I think 14 should be the absolute max.

With the 1986 and 1989 tastings we were lucky because there was only one very slightly corked bottle out of 40-odd bottles. This time we are unlikely to be so lucky...I would imagine up to a third of bottles we bring could be faulty or just plain knackered. So I think we should err on the side of bringing too many bottles...say if we bring 30 between us and 20-25 are good.

I have a little problem  that will solve your problem. :)

I will be moderating a session at our Academy's annual meeting in Chicago October 16. So I must bow out from this tasting. :(

We'll miss you, David, and I was looking forward to what I could extract from your cellar in trade. :(

We've always loved '75 Figeac and '75 Giscours -- just classic BWE wines -- so we'll bring both of those. Since we're taking two seats, we could add something like '70 Montrose or '70 Trotanoy. And we have a bunch of 79's that might not be too bad.

Sorry you can't make it David. I always had you down as a permanent fixture at this event.

So Jay - are you in or not? Shall I reserve a place for you or leave it open for someone else?

I too am sorry but I can't skip out on the Academy assignment.

Hope you are more forgiving than the culty mailing list wines though... skip a vintage and you are off the list. ;)

Would love to make this, but we have some engagements in October... would be tight but might be possible.
If numbers are not such an issue, I might be able to make a last minute jump across the pond!!!!

I would also have to look into what I can bring but it should be decent at the very least!!!

If you come over Jono you be my +1

Also folks, as per Tom's suggestion, we want to do an "Italians from the 70s" dinner on Friday night (because we want to blow the bloody doors off)

I know Patrick will be up for that...who else wants to come to that?

I still can't believe you found something more important to do, David...I mean what can be more important that this (apart from the annual convention)??

Hi all - with David dropping out we have 12, my original target, and we cant go past 14, because we dont have the space.14 is the absolute max.

Tim you are welcome to come because if Jay decides to come we will be 14.

Jay your place is open for 24 hours otherwise it goes to wine story (6pm Monday). Fair?

Given the likelihood that a significant number of wines will be F**ked (scuse my French) I think we should aim for about two bottles per person.

ok. will sort this out today but would need 2 spots as I'm sure my wife will want to join us. If no room for both of us, then will pass as you need to determine your head count.

No unfortunately not Winestory - I was waiting on Jay who has now confirmed, but I will get in touch if someone drops out. Right now we are absolutely full, but chances are someone will drop out. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

If you are in New York we do other more informal events - maybe burgundy at Tribeca Grill on May 24th with Chris Chasse Spleen, myself and maybe one or two others?

I'm happy to do the Kittle House Ian, but if Stefan and Lucie are in town, I doubt they'd be willing to shlep all the way north. Tribeca Grill could work for everyone. Of course, if a short train ride (about 50 minutes from GCT) is not a problem, Stefan, please let me know.

In any case, I am fine with either.

Hey Tim,

I hope life is treating you well.

Per the subject line, I think the date has indeed been confirmed for 16-OCT.

Also, the Comte has overstated (under-?) the theme for Friday's dinner, since I'm planning to bring non-Barolo Italian wines from the 70's! :-)

A presto,
