Pre-mox: is it safe to buy white burgs again?

Post by Blanquito »

I'm eyeing some white burgs, from 2003 onwards, but I'm a burg neophyte. Is it safe to cellar what I like or will these later years also go south prematurely?

Thanks.

I've heard plenty of theories of what caused it, and a number of steps winemakers are taking to combat it, but how will we really know if they've solved it until a few years go by without it showing up? My answer to your question: can't tell for sure.

Well
I have still kept buying white Burgs BUT I have limited the growers.
There are several growers completely off my list.
Yet there are several that I never had a randox bottle from.
So I have just bought a big parcel of Remoissenets (20 cases) which I'm going to share with a few locals.

I don't agree to stop buying completely.
Just pick the producer.

Buy the producer is the right advice, use the http://oxidised-burgs.wikispaces.com/ site to find out which producers have minimal problems. I stick with Paul Pernot (and Domaine Leflaive when I want to splurge).

That said, I would stay away from flabby 2003s and concentrate on 2004s, 2007s and 2008s.
Best

Thanks, gents. This is very helpful.

I had a delicious 2004 Thevenet Bongran Chablis Tradition last night, which seemed in good shape and offered decent value at $29.
