BWE Maine '10

Post by JimHow »

Now that the Celtics have gone down in another ignominious Boston sports defeat, I have been thinking about the possibility of another BWE pilgrimage to Chateau How this September.

Here is what I am conceptualizing:

1. I would want to do it if we can get at least six BWEers up here. I can accomodate as many as twenty for dinner. So, six to twenty would be a good number.

2. Looks like Labor Day is running late again this year. One of the best weekends to do it is the week after Labor Day, when the weather is usually still splendid but most of the tourists have left. So, for this year, that would be the following dates:

Thursday, September 9, 2010
Friday, September 10, 2010
Saturday, September 11, 2010
Sunday, September 12, 2010

3. Thursday night would be dinner at my house, where my brother Dan will grill up some steaks and we'll pull out the good stuff from the cellar. Friday through Sunday we would make our way to the coast: Boothbay Harbor, Portland, Cabbage Island, etc., where we would eat lobster, lobster, and more lobster!

4. The Cabbage Island clambake thing is always a lot of fun.

5. I have two guest rooms where people can stay, plus there is a clean and renovated Motel 6 a couple miles down the road for Thursday night. We will provide transportation so that nobody has to worry about driving after dinner.

I've had BWEers up for that weekend a couple years Septembers in a row now and it has been a lot of fun.

If anyone is interested, let me know!

Regrets Jim,

If notice went out earlier I'd have been there. I was toying between two meetings in the Fall. Napa leaving Sept 11 and Sonoma 1st week in Oct. I've booked Napa and we'll be in San Fran for over the weekend then heading to Napa. Last time Danielle was there it was 19 years ago pregnant with our son Christopher. She wasn't as happy as I being the designted driver.

Maybe next year Jim. We really enjoyed Maine last time.

Ah sorry to hear that Danny, we'll get together here in the Great State of Maine at some point in the future, I'd like to create a weekend-after-Labor-Day BWE tradition here in Maine.

We'd love to have you, Stefan, perhaps we can do it in mid-summer at some point, whether it is this year or some future summer.

I'm with Stefan, Jim-- I'd love to come, no way I can get away that time of year.

Hopefully some other time.

Maybe it is too short notice for this summer, Patrick, but maybe next summer we'll do something more in mid-summer when the timing might be better.

We're not Jewish and don't teach at university and we were already tentatively scheduled to be on the Cape right after Labor Day so Kathy and I would like to come, Jim.

That would be tremendous, Hound! Keep me posted!
I think for this year we'll keep it to the week after Labor Day, then next summer we'll do it in the middle of the summer so as to not interfere with the back-to-school schedules.
Jacques, we should get together this summer, I'm pretty flexible other than early August, I'll be helping Effie move down to Philadelphia for law school in early August but otherwise I'm in good shape schedule-wise this summer....

That would be fun, Jim. The last week in July and the first three weeks in August are completely open for us.

Excellent, I've been putting the finishing touches on my novel, I should have the first draft completed by then for review by the editor.

Wish we could come but shortly after Labor Day just isn't in the cards for us again this year. Eventually...

Let say it is not impossible for us. Just need to convince Marie-Claude. But must admit that with a 21 months old daugther and 4 months old son in September, might be a bit hard...

But I will follow that thread to know if that mini-offline will happen.
