A refined bouquet leading to lovely plum flavours finishing with some chocolate. Medium bodied with a fine mouthfeel. Super fruit definition and beautifully balanced. Would be interesting to compare to newer styles. (strong B)

Cheers,

I know there are a number of BWEers who prefer the old style. Have you had the newer style Junior?

Jim,

I've not tasted any recent vintages of St Emilion although I do have the odd bottle in the cellar. I enjoyed this wine so for educational purposes I should try a recent vintage, perhaps 2001. For reference I have loved wines like 1990 Trotanoy but I don't drink Bordeaux very often.

Junior,
If you don't drink Bordeaux very often, then what do you drink, heh-heh...

Guys
I loved the 83 Pavie, drunk during the 1990s it was spicy, fresh, beautifully balanced and rich enough for me.
One of the best right bank 83s for sure.

I last tried the 2004 Pavie a few months ago and it was so woody it was like sucking an oak stave. The concerntration was there but it tasted like Merlot from anywhere - it didn;t have the spice, the aromatic complexity and the intensity of flavour I hoped for. It will age but so what? It will always be woody.

I loved the 1998 and 2000 Pavies, I thought they were incredibly concentrated but not over-oaked at all.

Sounds like it would have slotted in nicely to our tasting on Friday...it would be fun to do an old vs new Pavie tasting one day
