BWE'11 in San Francisco - Time to send your checks

The 10th annual BWE convention will be in San Francisco on the weekend of May 19-May 22, 2011. Through Werner's enormous work to find us a suitable venue at a suitable price for our main Saturday night event this year, we now have a plan. We have a good central venue booked which will have good food, good stems, and let us bring in as much wine as we want (corkage by person, not by bottle) -the Grand Cafe http://www.grandcafe-sf.com/index.php.

We had 37 people express interest, but now it is time to send in checks. We have to put a deposit down of $1500 in a week or two to hold the venue, and I will be writing the check. As Werner noted in the previous thread, the cost of the Saturday night event will be $150 per person. Please commit in this thread that you will be joining us in San Franciso for BWE'11 and please send a check made out to me to:

I think just about everyone who will be attending knows me and hopefully will be comfortable sending me checks. I have been treasurer for the main BWE event before and know how much of a hassle it is, but it is an integral part of making an event like this work. Last time I got every $ on time and was able to spend a small surplus on Champagne for the group - hopefully it will work out the same way this time.

I am also thinking of hosting an informal get together at my new/100 year old flat in SF on Friday night - would anyone like to get together for cheese and charcuterie and great bottles in my home rather than a restaurant setting the night before?

The BWE main event is always a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in May.

Another reminder to send checks - we need 28 people to make the venue work financially. Of course we are going to get there in the end, but it does make it easier from Werner and my perspective to have the checks in hand before I need to cut a check in the next week or so. We already have 14 seats in.

Also, the venue max is 40. There is always the chance of getting frozen out - BWE events tend to be popular when they are in SF. So please send your checks soon!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we have signed the contract, put down the deposit, and are completely set for our Saturday night main event. Thanks to all of you who have sent checks already. We will need more people (and checks) closer in but I appreciate getting enough checks in early to cover the substantial deposit.

I just got my flight ticket. After 3 years in Dubai, I have learned to get them early.

Arriving on Thursday afternoon, so I can do a Thursday dinner. Cal Cabs? Italian? Spanish?
