TN: 2006 Château d'Issan (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux)

Post by robertgoulet »

  • 2006 Château d'Issan - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (11/10/2010)
Now were talking! Everything about this wine screams Margaux. A pretty nose of violets, soft barn scents, fresh cherry and earth.
The palate has tremendous balance. None of the flavor screams out, but it's all there. The palate is greeted by beautiful cherry cassis, light creaminess, semi-sweet chalky earth, soft tannins and leather. It's all about elegance. A great treat well worth the $55. (92 pts.)

Anyone got taste notes on their second wine from this vintage (Blason D'Issan 2006)?

Sounds delicious, Robert, makes me want to go out and buy some 2006 d'Issan. I'm a big fan of this estate. We've had a couple BWE dinners in the past with the owner of this property.

Yes, Robert does make the wine sound good. As anyone tried the '05? How does it compare?

'05 d'Issan was very good at pre-release during UGC in NYC several years ago. Have to age it and let it take it's course to turn into a very good wine, unless you're a tannic-freak and can drink wines that are as hard as nails.
I've not had the '06, so I can't compare.

I haven't tried the 2005, but the 2000 is really good. FWIW, HWSRN gave the 2006 a 94-point rating.

I've got a life time supply of 2005, for better or worse, with a case of the 2005 d'Issan for our tasting gang to follow through the years, Ramon!

This chateau has taken quite a turn in price. I guess it deserves it.

The 2009 for $61.97 at PJs is tempting me....

The 04 is already delicious (and was much, much cheaper)

I tried the 2007 Blason d'Issan recently. It was somewhat modern but chocolatey and fat, full-bodied. At the price of around $23, it was a very good bottle.
