But if Cheval Blanc consistently under-performs against the best, shouldn't it be down graded?

Let's look at who the Jets have lost to this season - Baltimore, GB and Pats. I think the only team the Jets have beat that is currently playing over .500 ball is the Pats in the second week of the season. What they've done is barely squeak out wins against the mediocrity of the league. 30-27 over Houston, 24-20 over Denver, 23-20 over Detroit.

Sorry, but I just don't see the Jets being able to play with the big boys yet. Who knows, maybe once Sanchez gets some more experience but he just throws too many picks in very critical situations.

One more thing, why does everyone keep talking about the Jets' defense. Do they lead the league in any of the defensive stats? I think the Steelers have a much better defense and if the Pats defense can shake Sanchez up like that, the Steelers' defense may just dismantle him.

The Jets can only win against their opposition, it's not their fault the opposition was poor.
They lost to Baltimore by one point in the season opener, ok.
They lost 9-0 to Green Bay when they amassed more than 350 yards of offense.
The loss to the Patriots, ok, no excuses, but it happens.
They have four more games, home to Miami and Buffalo, away to the Steelers and the Bears. if they go 2-2 they will make the playoffs with a 11-5 record. I'm sure they would have taken that at the start of the season.
We will see then how good they are.

True, they can only play the teams they are scheduled to play, but I just don't remember them really dominating against the mid teir teams, they still give up a lot of points against some of the weak teams and they lose to the top teams.

I think they definitely make the play offs, which is a big improvement, I'm just not sure they're ready for the super bowl yet. Give Sanchez anyother year and keep building the team around him and things could get exciting in the AFC east.

But who knows, any given Sunday........

Well, there will be an additional common point of comparison for these two teams. They both play the Bears in the coming weeks. I'm predicting the Bears will have two more losses after those games.

I don't know. The Bears' defense against the run is pretty strong, but that doesn't match up against the Pats very well since they're more about the pass and their running game is really just to keep the defenses honest.

I think the Jets use the running game more and they could have a tough time against the Bears. Sanchez also likes to throw interceptions and I think the Bears are pretty good at picking off passes.

The Bears having home field advantage for both games doesn't hurt either. My prediction is that the Pats beat the Bears. The Jets/Bears, is a coin toss. It depends if the Bears can get to Sanchez early in the game and shake him up a little.

Damn! Tom Brady and his ogres kicked the Shirt off Sanchez and his Jets.

They'll most likely be in the Super Bowl.

BTW, I found some SPAM or something tops that were the NFL back in the 1960's. No AFL teams, just NFL originals. Odd you could go for 9 and 1 and be the top team.

I have no problem with owners moving the team, I *DO* have a problem with them keeping the name. Like the Charlotte Hornets moving to NO or the Jazz moving to Utah. Charlotte Hornets because of the Revolutionary War and the Battle of Kings Mountain whereby the rebels attacking were "like a hive of hornets". Does anyone equate Utah with Jazz?

Whoever made the schedule this year was on drugs. The Patriots have had to play the Steelers, Chargers, Jets twice, Colts, Bears, Packers, Vikings, Ravens, not to mention the tough Miami and Buffalo twice. The Jets have beaten one team with a winning record all year and are thus only one game behind the Patriots.

So the difference is that the Jets played the Texans instead of the Colts (the Texans split their series with the Colts) and the sorry Broncos instead of the sorry Chargers (Broncos lost in San Diego, play the Chargers at home week 16). That's your beef? The schedules look very similar.

But these ratings were based on last year's schedule, and you claim that the Jets played against mainly losing teams this year.

I submit that it is more difficult to win at Denver than San Diego, but the schedules look very similar to me.

If we are measuring victories so far this season, the Patriots wins have come against three teams with winning records and three teams with 6-6 records.

The Jets wins have come against one team with a winning record and one team with a 6-6 record.

Also, I think playing against Peyton is tougher than playing against Houston, and I think playing at San Diego is much tougher than playing at Denver.

There's still a quarter of a season to go.

The one stat that I'm interested in is how the tie-breakers are shaping up. The Pats are in good shape against Pittsburgh because we beat them. According to one Boston sportscaster the other night, the Pats can lose against either the Bears or Packers, and if they beat Miami and Buffalo, they will get the top seed even if either the Jets or Steelers go undefeated the rest of the way. (Both the Jets and Steelers can't go undefeated because they have to play each other.) I'm wondering if that is accurate. In other words, if the Jets go 4-0 the rest of the way, and the Pats go 3-1 (the loss coming from one of the non-conference teams, either the Bears or Packers), and both teams end up 13-3, who gets the top seed?

This is incredibly important, of course, because the top seed gets a bye and two home games before the Super Bowl, the other 13-3 team would get a wild card spot and would have to win three road games to get to the Super Bowl... despite a 13-3 record.

The Patriots get the top seed in this case, here are the rules:

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.

Heck, not to worry Jim, the Patriots are likely to be in the Super Bowl the way they are playing. And I hate them. GO RAVENS!

The Patriots just quietly go about their business, they don't brag and pound their chests like Rex and his NYC-media hyped pretenders, their unparalleled excellence infuriates people, it generates a jealousy in the general public that is just human nature. They may have videotaped a meaningless walk-through a decade ago but I don't recall them tripping anyone on the sidelines.... Peter King had an interesting stat last week: The Pats won two-thirds of their games during the time they were supposedly "cheating.". They've won three-quarters of their games since then....
