This puppy needs a little air... A bit tight on the palate, although the bouquet is lovely.

I see that Mike Vick is first and Peyton Manning is second among fans for Pro Bowl votes....

Are they high on crack?

Is there any wonder why this country is in trouble?

I'm gonna go with Mister Tom Brady.

Vick is a great story, though....

Should be a good game in Chicago this week, what's the weather report for Sunday, Jon?

I still say there is a color purple distinct to Margaux, but maybe I'm just imagining it....

What do you think of the Gonzalez and Crawford acquisitions this week, blanquito, are the Red Sox the new Evil Empire?

The Crawford signing floored us up here. I went to bed on Wednesday night and the word was that California was going to get him. I nearly drove off the road when I heard he signed with the Sox.

Are the Yanks even going to get Lee?

Mmmm, that Margaux nose. I don't know what Margauxberries are, but this has Margauxberries on the nose.....

You know, I've been doing this criminal law stuff for a quarter of a century now, I've represented murderers, and child molesters, and arsonists, and rapists, and every crime imaginable.

This week I represented a guy who stabbed his girlfriend five times.... Of all the crimes I deal with, stabbings are some of the worst.... It is a very, very bad crime.... Whenever I hear of a cop shooting someone wielding a knife, I'm always siding with the cop.... Knives are really evil weapons. We had a Bates College kid stabbed to death a few years back in the blink of an eye one rainy night in Lewiston, an absolutely horrible crime. I was appointed to represent the murderer but couldn't do it because of a conflict of interest.

Man, these are hard cases, I'll tell you!

I was at a seminar back in October where the presenter was showing some of the crime scenes from the OJ case. Very bad stuff.

I recently saw the MSE 2000 for $65, but I passed as a little bird told me it was "spoofulated". Dare I say, Parkerized!

Do you object, JimHow JD?

Okay, so...

The proposition is:

Should Patrick purchase 2000 Malescot at $65?

I will report back on that....

Keep those rants coming Jim

The one on the 2005 thread was one of the best yet...tell the world the way it is, tell em what you really think and don't hold back

(Sipping on a rather nice Ch Figeac 2006 actually)

The difference between Figeac and Malescot St X is that Figeac is real Bordeaux...olives, tapenades the lot...while MSX is just modern 21st century spoofulated Parkerised sh1t.

My recent '06 malescot and my first had no hints of parker or spoof. Lovely stuff.

Boy, I must say, this wine is awfully modern. The nose seems to outperform the palate. The nose is brilliant but I'm waiting for something more profound on the taste buds and I'm not getting it. Billiant, deep, fresh color, too. And this has nothing to do with the fact that it is still young. It should be showing more than this at age ten. Good fruit, just lacking a "wow' factor. A nonetheless strong wine relatively speaking, but in the context of the vintage it is a bit of a disappointment. Rating: 90 points.

Definitely not worth the $65, Patrick.

$45, maybe....

Jim,

Looks like my Chicago weather reply got lost in the Internet ether.

Weather for Sunday in Chicago is "winter." Temps are forecast to be from teens to low 20s. Chance of snow and blowing winds. Should be perfect December football weather.

Of course, I would love to see the Bears win, but I am very concerned that the defense (cover 2, bend but don't break) will be broken numerous times by Brady. The only salvation will be if the Bears can pressure him without blitzing everyone. And then the real unknown is whether Cutler will re-discover how to throw numerous drive-killing interceptions for no reason whatsoever.

Soldier Field has been recently re-sodded, so expect to see lots of flying divots of fresh grass.

I'm expecting a letdown this weekend, Jon, sounds pretty blustery.

I saw the Pats in a playoff game against Tennessee back in '03. It was minus 40 with the windchill.... with the possible exception of a night during Carnival in Quebec and the night I was kidnapped in Russia, that was about the coldest night I've ever experienced. Vinatieri kicked a 43 yard field goal in the 4th quarter, the ball went through the uprights like a football-sized boulder, the Pats won by three, I think it was 17-14, and they went on to win the Super Bowl.

You would be so disappointed if you paid $65 for this wine, Patrick.
I think the 2007 Vieux Telegraphe I paid $69 for was about three times better.

Yes I gave up on Malescot some years ago - used to love it in the 70s etc. For true Margaux and true classed-growth value I recommend - well, you all know what I'm going to say so goodbye!

In March and again in August of 2008, the '00 Malescot was a true delight to drink. I think I even rated it 94 points one of those times in a double blind tasting. So, while I do appreciate the update on its current state, I am going to hold onto very high hopes for my three remaining bottles. Thanks, Jim.
