Post by PhilR »

Hi There

Haven't posted in ages but I thought I'd see if anyone knew more about this (maybe Alex?) apparently some people think the organisation that have bought L'isle Verte are a cult:

Great to have you checking in, Phil! I hope you had a terrific holiday season.
The loss of their 2009 and 2010 vintage is a blow that follows on from losses and damage caused by the storm Xynthia earlier this year. There were at least 5 breaches in the 29km of levees designed to protect the island during the storm and the aftermath left vines hidden beneath 1.50 m of water, swamped buildings and 3000 m2 of greenhouses smashed.
Echoes of N'awlins and Katrina?

Hi,

Yes, there was an article about this in the local newspaper.
Almost certainly an act of vandalism.

Years ago I wrote and article for Decanter magazine about wine made on the islands in the Gironde.
The rich alluvial soil cannot produce great wines, but they are good, and "tell a story".

There is very much an "out of time" feel to the islands, and there was a time when people only left them on Saturday morning to do their shopping on the mainland.

Best regards,
Alex R.
