Recommendations for 2007 Bordeaux

Post by billfgrady »

I realize that it is not a great (or even good vintage), but it is my daughter's birthyear, so I am looking to buy a case or two to lay down. Any recommendations as to what will last 20+ years from this vintage? Pontet Canet has caught my eye, even at around $70/btl.

Pontet Canet sounds like a good bet. You might also consider some of the longer-lived Chateauneufs, as '07 was a killer year there.

Are you thinking you'll be drinking these or giving them to her? Sauternes are supposed to be very good in '07, and a case of that to give to her as a wedding gift or some to open at her wedding would be pretty special. There's a good chance she'd like it, even if she's not interested in wine at that point. Yquem and Climens are tops but very pricey, but Coutet, Rieussec, and Lafaurie Peyraguey are pretty reliable and much more affordable.

Dry white Bordeaux is excellent in '07. You might be able to get a good price on something really special.

I would recommend the 2007 Lynch Bages.
