Hotel for BWE

Post by hm$.1 »

I have a quote for $184/night from the Renaissance Stanford Court on Nob Hill (group rate).

Interested or keep looking?

Try the Hilton near the restaurant. $160 I believe.

Thanks, hm$ and mr vino. Is the $160 a "pay in advance" rate, Jay?

We'd probably prefer the Stanford Court. A lot more unfavorable tripadvisor comments about the cleanliness of rooms at the Hilton, and that's a showstopper for us...

The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins (top of Nob Hill) is a little old and stuffy, but nice location and has a $119/night rate for the May dates.

I stayed there once, Jon, it was fine.

Gotta love bing! $119 for the Mark Hopkins might not last long!

Edit - By the way, that's a pre-paid rate as well. (Gotta keep myself from getting banned in the meantime    )

2nd Edit - Gail says "Pull the trigger", so I guess that's where we'll be staying! We stayed there fairly recently and it was still pretty nice.

Gail spoke to sales at the Mark Hopkins - the $119 rate is up for 48 hours only (and the woman didn't know when that 48 hours started!)

Not to say that other deals won't come up. Their regular group rate is $179.

Ok, we are in too (International Mark Hopkins).

Can everyone email whom you know are coming, as this is a 48 hour deal? I will try the ones I have their emails.

Thanks,
Werner

I'm in...arriving Thursday, checking out Sunday...I havent booked my flight yet (from NY/SW CT) - any thoughts? For me it depends on who if anyone I bring. Guess should book it sooner rather than later...also how do I transport the wine? I have several of those sturdy cardbook boxes with polystyrene inserts, can I check one of those in the hold?

You can check wine, Ian. Reusing a shipper is fine.

Yes, Ian. You can legally check wine as luggage. I've brought 24 bottles many times in my check baggage. The key is to use high quality styrofoam shippers. Don't let anyone tell you that there's a limit on how much wine you can check-- I've been through this several times with airline employees who are confusing it with TSA's regulations for hard liquor (which potentially poses a fire hazard, unlike wine).

Bill,

The rate was supposed to last 48 hours. I guess it's gone now. The current best rate for this hotel is $159 which you saw. Sorry my email didn't get to you earlier.
